If you search online for router distros you'll probably see top ten lists that include router distros like OPNsense or pfSense, or Sophos Firewall, or IPFire(there are lots of distros). IPFire is often recommended it's simple, functional(routing/VPN/intrusion detection/basic package manager) but feels a bit basic and dated. Imagine if someone tried to turn IPFire into a slicker, more modern, commercial product? Well that's basically what using NethServer is like. It's free and has a community forum and commercial subscription options and is much easier for the average user to deal with than OPNsense/pfSense/Sophos. Unfortunately it seems to get almost no publicity which is a shame because I think it's more modern and nicer than IPFire(which does get mentioned reasonably often).
