Being a bit of an online gamer the past few years lve had an issue which doesnt tend to affect me but would like to finally sort out which from what lve read is related to MTU settings.

currently my PlayStation 4 is reporting that my router might not support IP packet fragmentation, originally it was defaulted at a MTU value of 1500 (both my Sky Q and my TP-link router are also set to this value) however l found my PlayStation speeds were improved when l set the value to 1400, however l wish to get rid of the message regarding IP packet fragmentation and have my network setup properly to use the service.

now l did find a way to test things via my command prompt (after recommendation from Sky user forums) and l thought ld post the results

You can set the packet size on the advanced settings on the PS4, I would normally recommend a size of 1464 or was its 1468 I found was best I cant remember. How ever when playing games online the payload wont be huge so it doesn't matter much, to find out the size you would need to wire shark it which for me is a lot of hassle for not much if any improvement. One way to let it auto set is to allow ICMP on the router, yes it does make it pingable from the internet but it also allows MTU path discovery to work better.

currently as stated it shows 1500 on both the TP-link and the Sky Q 1472 is as high as it will go before l get the fragmentation note in my cmd prompt notes, but lm reading optimal settings require you to add 28 or something and the program l ran recommended 1500 (an old one l found noted on sky user forum).

thinking about it, it might be worth changing my PS4 to 1472 rather than have it set to 1400.. as l dont want to mess things up and do too many reboots lol.
