New £14 broadband offer from Three

Hi all. I'm currently using a Smarty unlimited sim in my B818. The sim is now enabled for 5G, therefore should I decide to upgrade to say a CPE Pro 2 in the event that this area is finally 5G enabled there should be no problem. However I've just had an email from Three offering their £14 router deal. If I took it up I'd obviously put the sim in the B818, but what if 5G appears during the two year term of the contract? Would that sim work with a 5G router or would it be strapped to 4G? Has anyone had this deal and tried the sim in a 5G router or phone?
Thanks.

I'd say that it will work with 5G, but obviously without a link or something it is hard to tell. You'd better read the fine print.

Unfortunately the fine print says nothing much about the sim, merely that it will be a 4g router.
Thanks for the comment.

I think all three plans have access to 5G, but the live chat on their website will tell you for sure.

Thanks for that. I'll have a chat with them.
Tell them I said hello eccles, and ask them what they've done with my pole of wonder.☺️;)

Not spoken to them yet. I'm wondering what's the catch? Has anyone else opened a business account without having a business? Do you need a VAT number or registered company name?

afaik, no catch. But it is SIM only.

They only asked me for a business name and address. I am VAT registered, but they never asked. I guess since you claim it back from HMRC they don't care. You don't have to be VAT registered to be a business either. And if you really want to go all official about it, a LTD company costs about £10 :D

You can also get a free business bank account almost instantly with revolut.

All sims from Three are 5G enabled automatically its not the sim that needs to be 5G compatible with the device the device needs to be 5G compatible. For example if your on EE/BT they have 4G/5G plans unlike Three they dont charge extra for 5G. I believe its the same on 02/Virgin and Vodafone but with Vodafone as you guys might know Vodafone have diffrent plans on unlimited 5G speed restrictions to the max plan.

Im on Three unlimited everything £22 per month when I ended my 5G contract without paying the reminder of the contract the cpe pro device original was from relish then changed to Three network thats how i was able to keep the device without paying the reminder fkr the device also.

I only get over 100mbps speeds but been waiting nearly three years for 5G to come officially in my area no announcement yet from three but im luckily receiving 5G as im on the edge of 5G coverage.

Im still to see crazy speeds of 5G that only a small portion of people are getting.

To me it seems like Three network have stalled improving the 5G coverage in my area.

Im not complaining but paying monthly we all like to see improvements rather then stay the same or declining.

Well, that was an interesting online chat with Gordon at Three. Three have a current offer of two data sims at £3 each including VAT for a 24 month unlimited business contract. This works out cheaper than their single unlimited sim at £10 including VAT. It means I can stick one sim in the router, cancelling the Smarty sim, and put the second sim in my phone which I can set for data only with the current phone sim for calls.

I was surprised to see that they offer unlimited data on a 24 month contract for £10 (£8.33+VAT), too good to be true?
Nothing mentioned about inclusive minutes or texts, buy I could live without that.
Do you have to have a business to get this business deal from Three or is it available to Joe Bloggs as well?

They asked about my business, I just said I ran a business once, which I did, and that I was thinking of starting up again. They asked for a company name and I said I'd be trading under my own name. This got around the need for a separate company bank account. They didn't need company or VAT registration details. They also asked for some personal details such as whether I owned my own home. They will do a credit background check.

The current offer is for two sims at £3 each, i.e. £6 per month over a 24 month contract.

There is nothing mentioned about inclusive minutes or texts because the sims are data only. They are intended for routers and/or tablets etc. My phone contract only has 1GB data so I can put the spare data sim in slot two and set it for data only with calls and texts with the existing phone sim.

I guess this raises another question, the SIMs are of great value, clearly! However, what budget 5G router/modems exist? I don't know the market too well :(

I'd take them up on this if I knew how to make the most of it.

That IS a good offer. I took the £10 unlimited business sim, but the online guy said if I took two regular phone contracts at £10 each I could have the data sim for £5.

Your deal is much better.

Budget? basically none. You're looking at about £300ish for a 5G router and 400+ for the best one (IMHO) the Huawei CPE Pro 2. I have seen the CPE Pro 2 on ebay but locked to three going for about £250-300 but I've no idea if these can be unlocked or not (I suppose they can but I haven't researched it since i've already got one).

I would avoid the TCL hub too. IT does work, it works fast too. But you've got to be really careful about what bands are supported.
