New bt line not working

Hi fellas, new to the forum.

Came to england about a week ago and wanted internet off course so I checked different providers and realised I needed a bt line.

My flat did have bt sockets so I presumed there was an old line there and so it was. I ordered a line from bt and they confirmed it being reconnected 24 hours after I called. I have tried calling my number and there is actually a number there, 5 dial tones and then bt answering machines.

However when I connect phone or computer modem to my main socket there is no dial tone so something is not working.

I've tried the bt online fault service but it doesn't work. If I ring the fault service up it says there is something not working with my line but then offers no further help.

Now I am trying to get through to technical help 800800150 I think but this is costing me loads as I obviously only have a mobile.

I am paying £11 a month and will be getting the bill soon. What can I do?

0800 calls in the UK are free but not from most mobiles, you could try a phone box as it would be free to call from there or ask a friend or work if you could call using there line. My line at my new house was supposed to be connected after 24 hours but it took over 72 to do. Have you tried a phone in the master BT socket (this tends to be a socket which has a removeable lower half of the front plate).

Dial 1571 and make sure there are no messages stored.
Stored messages give an interrupted dial tone which your modem can't recognise.
Delete messages by selecting option 3

onephat: I have tride the master socket yes, it has been 3 days as well I think, since 6th october. I might be able to find a phone box.

Finally got through to them, called 150 from a phone box free and they said the fault was with them engineer coming free of charge wednesday afternoon :)

thanks to onephat for phonebox option

today the engineer came around 3 as promised and fixed everything. Be Unlimited ordered :D
