Hey this has appeared in the telecoms riser in my flats does anyone know if it is openreach or one of the other guys?
Didn't manage to catch the guys doing the install!

It's Mill Hill East London

Thanks

It’s a company called ITS technology that has used the Openreach passive network ( that’s the piano ref on the label) to get to your block . I think they are wholesalers so check their website to see who you can buy from and if you are ready for service .

Thanks for the reply I will shoot them a message!

I think it got pulled in this Saturday as I saw blokes doing stuff with the bt ducts a few blocks away, its just coiled up.

A few months ago they joined two separate bt ducts up at the end of the blocks going under a road, the opposite end of the estate to where the green cabinets are now.

Hopefully will be a quick process and I can get some gigabit internet soon!

This has gone in yesterday, things seem to be moving, and yes I have been peaking my head in the cupboard everyday coming home from work

What are PIANO numbers? Are they numbers given by Openreach to each PIA user/company?

They are indeed, normally followed by a series of numbers for each time a builder raises a notice of intent which is basically highlighting the duct , boxes and pole they wish to use in an area on an openreach system called the maptool . This then generates a PIANO ref for that particular build .

The box got fixed to the wall at the end of January and not had any updates since, no reply from ITS Technologies

In February Open Infra put signs on the only road into the estate saying full fibre is coming but after chasing them via email I got told I would need to get some neighbours interested in signing up as I am in a "pocket"

I have emailed the property manager to see if they know anything but don't hold much hope in that.

Community fiber are near by and addresses in the same area have full FTTP so not sure what the hold up is and know I will probably have the choice of community fiber or openreach and possibly openinfra soon.

As soon as CFL did my pole Openreach appeared out of nowhere to do it as well, after being left out for more than 1 year. So hold on tight, you may go from zero to hero in a the blink of an eye...

hi, so I am not sure when but another box has gone in next to the new box that has the new fibre cable in, there is a thin yellow cable going between, and then 6 white cables coming out of the new new box. box 1box 2box 2 under

I still have had no contact from anyone about selling fibre or when it will be available.

just curious what the 2nd box is if anyone knows

thanks

Quite probably a splitter tray arrangement in the second box.

The first box with the yellow-tagged cable, will be the main drop cable coming from their network / street infrastructure.

The second box with the bundle of white cables emerging will have the splitter ass'y inside it and the white cables will be the individual drop cables to each flat / apartment in the building.

Finally got some news, a leaflet from 4th utility advising full fibre is available.

Sent them an email asking a few questions about the install and if static ip is available for purchase, just waiting for a reply. Seems to be 30 days contract which is nice.

Anyone had any experience with them? My only worry is that there is no extra boxes installed in the telecoms riser, only the equipment I put in the last update

If you order a service they’ll take a fibre feed from the riser into your flat. Once inside yours they will install an ONT (optical network terminal) that you will connect a router etc to. Or indeed the ONT may be an all-in-one unit that is combined with a router. Just depends on them.

There should be nothing else installed in the comms riser and certainly nothing active that requires powering.

Best speak with them about what they supply typically.

So had 4th utility install today, ended up being a "dry install" where the equipment is put in but the service needs to be activated with in the next couple of days and should get service.

Install was quick, just have to wait for the red light to turn green

Will look to buy a longer fibre patch cable and get the box in the cupboard behind where it currently is

The router is a Dasan H660GM, had a quick look on the management page but not going to change anything until the service is running.

Once I am happy with the service I will run a cat6 to the office where my rack and server is and use my own wifi. Vodafone fttc contract ends in December so will have to let that run until then anyway

Its 30 day contract for £29 a month.

Cool. That’s an all in router ONT+router.

Did they need to install any other intermediate joints or splice box points between the riser and your flat or did they go direct?

There is another joint/white box in the water cupboard which is where they drilled the hole into my flat I never looked in that cupboard. The telecoms riser is the other side of the hall.

I was left a message by 4th utility saying an engineer will attend on Friday to liven the service, they do not need to enter flat, only that I leave the router on.

So the service went live a few days after install, I ran a temporary cat5 along the floor just to get hardwired into my lan for a few tests

Getting 930/930

Since then I ran a new fiber cable into the cupboard behind and located the router Inside the cupboard and ran some cat6 to my office so have a permanent cable going from the router to my little rack.

Set bridge mode on the dasan and set up my USG using the pppoe details which were freely available on my account page

The service is cgnat by default

Asked for a static IP which is £5 a month extra on top of the £29 monthly fee for 900/900

Have super low pings and constant fast speeds.

Another company BDS have been sniffing around and they seem to have something to do with virgin media but I would never buy their service even if it was the only fiber available!
