New FTTC cab upgrade help people who dont move to FTTC

Hi,

I live in a village in Depden with a postcode of IP29 4BY, we are connected to a cabinet on the Chevington exchange at the local cabinet there around 3.2-4 km away my line length is about 3.6km.

The local exchange and cabinet has been upgraded to support FTTC but due to the line length we never get it and we are on about 0.5 - 1.5 MB ADSL.

We have had news that an All In one FTTC is going to be added to the village in march 2018 if BT's plans stay on track. As the All in one cabinet also contains a PCP cab in there would this reduce the line length if residents don't want to upgrade to FTTC and stay on ADSL would there line speeds improve due to the shorter line length?

ADSL comes from the exchange and merely passes through your local cabinet, thus a new AIO cabinet being installed nearby probably wouldn't affect that. However if the AIO cabinet is installed within 2km of you then you should see better speeds by upgrading to FTTC (VDSL2) as that will be supplied from the cabinet rather than the exchange.

Thanks Mark,

My house is about 700 meters if your going along the roads from the house to the cabinet location, straight line point to point it would be 500 meters.

So with the phone line re-routing to the cabinet i am hoping that the actual line length would be less than 1 km as i am hoping to get around high 20's-30 Mb although to be honest anything over 1Mb would be good as keeping to a 50Gb a month on 4G is a challenge.

500m to 1km is the distance where VDSL2/FTTC speeds see the most change, so it's a bit too early to say for sure but you could probably expect anything between 20Mbps and all the way up to around 70Mbps. Just depends on how many 100s of metres the difference in copper cabling. Assuming your home wiring is in good condition and properly filtered too.
