new isp help

Hi, this is my first post on this forum.

I am looking for a new isp provider, i am thinking of virgin.net broadband plan1 and also bt option 3 the one with the hub thing.
I play online games a lot i.e (battlefield 2) and need good unlimited broadband with low pings.

Any recommendations would be very welcome.
appologies for the posts layout, letter writing is not a skill of mine.

thanks.

Hi Mal,

Welcome to the forum, you dont really need unlimited unless you want to doanload alot each month gaming takes up very little bandwith and pings is one thing you need to think about theres posts of people with over 300ms pings on adslguide who are with virgin.

Remember BT option 3 isnt unlimited

I used to play css a lot, well a few months ago, and got pings of about 5 on it. Never went higher than 14, unless there was a server problem.

My ISp is ukonline 2mb LLU, and Im on their unlimited 2mb Fair usage policy applies package. Pings are good, and the downloading it extremely good.

If you game a lot, unless you are playing a MMPRPG such as guild wars, you wont download a lot. In guild wars, just entering the world can cause you to download hundreds of mb.

Last month, I downloaded/uploaded about 50GB+ between 2 computers and 2 notebooks. Which didnt happen to break the FUP. So a very good provider. But I try not to take advantage of them or other users on the service. If Im heavily downloading, I try to setup the comp to download during the early hours.
Downloads are always at the max speed of 244kb/s for me/. Which is fast. But a contributing factor is that I also live near the exchange.

A good battlefield 2 server if the css servers are anything to go by, are the uk based http://www.online-assault.com/news.htm

Have fun.

Thanks for the replies, i wasn't sure on how much gb online gaming took up, so youve saved me a few quid there.
I still aren't sure which isp to go with, theres so many, my local exchange is about 5km away, and i wanna stay away from contracts.

I will have a look at some reviews, see if they give me a better idea.

thanks again.

Thats it ive decided which isp to go with.

gonna take a chance on Namesco, if anyone disagrees youve got till 7pm tonight to tell me (thats when im ordering it), thanks.

Hi there,

We had a customer who was on namesco for all of 2 weeks before he moved to us because of poor quality support, pings and general service issues.

We can offer you upto an 8mb package with unlimited downloads for £19.99 per month. Thats with free setup and also a free modem on a 12 month contract. If you didnt want to sign up for a 12 month contact the activation fee is £40 inc vat.

To be totally honest there isnt many ISP's out there who offer 1 month contracts with free setup if thats what you are looking for.

If thats any help or you want further information, email me at darren@nutshell-hosting.co.uk

Broadband Provider

Hi

I am looking to join up to Broadband for the first time and am considering SurfAnyTime, Vispa or ICUK as they all seem to have good reviews. However, the latest reviews for SurfAnyTime and Vispa are in April and July respectively. I wondered if anyone has any more recent experience of either of these providers.

We mainly use the Internet for emails and general surfing. We don't do online gaming etc. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Darren As our forum rules say you have to email Mark J before posting on the forums to enable us to authenticate you and give reps status.

Please email Mark J here

Just for my personal curiosity nutshell hosting would this be the same nutshell company that suddenly stopped trading a few years back.. Nutshell ISP?

well as we emailed him as per your rules over 3 weeks ago,

so if this hasnt been done, not my problem

Regards,

Darren

What a nice thing to say to a mod, I'm going to keep a link to that post just for future referance and flaming when a customer wants to complain to show what a cowboy outfit you really are.

Hi All,

As i said i have emailed ispreview several times asking for them to add us as an ISP REP, as i dont know how long this takes to be sorted hence my reply.

As regards to the other persons comment stating we are a "cowboy outfit", i think not, we are a large hosting company and Broadband provider, so to be honest your comments are totally unfounded.

I hope Ispreview ass ourselves as a ISP REP asap, maybe one of the MODS can ask why this already hasnt happened?

ManOfMeans - what a prig you are!

Having spent some time to reading the forum, it seems that it is mainly a talking shop for a small number of of quite vocal, know-it-all, self opiniated, never get it wrong bigots.

I wonder why the ISP reps even bother to try and help in the light of these self-righteous opinions.

What a miserable bunch.

That's a very bold statement. Had the OP mentioned another ISP I'm sure you'd have had a customer from that ISP too.

Additionally, I'd be very suprised if they moved after just 2 weeks. Namesco like any other ISP has minimum contract periods. Must have been quite expensive for your customer to leave after just two weeks.

We can offer you upto an 8mb package with unlimited downloads...
Which is unsustainable. Loads have tried (and failed) to offer this.

Why do some people just never learn...

to unlimintred-dsl -

The be an ISP in the Uk you must comply with various legislations including -
Displaying a postal address on your website not a PO Box one.
Being a member of a recognised Dispute Resolution Policy.

I can not find either of these on your website. Why not?

Come to mention it - none of the links on your website work either, where do i find this fabled ADSL package?

Infact clicking any link results in Directory Listing Denied...

hummm....

I find it rather unlikely that you have taken any customers from Namesco to be honest, not least as it seems impossible to order online. And the fact your domain was registered in January this year, namesco have been in business for 10 years have 24/7 support from the uk etc and ping times sub 20ms.... Cant even see your support telephone number on your site, nor its operating hours, care to enlighten us...?

Hi All.

Yes we took a customer from Namesco, yes they did pay themself out of the contract due to the poor service.

Yes the domain was only registered in January this yes and yes we know half the links dont work on the website as it is still being designed.

Orders atm cannot be placed through the website, we admit that. As our company is mainly geared up to supply business connections with maintanance contracts.

No the address isnt on the website atm, and yes the switchboard telephone number is on the website at the bottom left hand corner, the switchboard number is 0870 478 9910, which then you can press the options for sales, accounts, customer services and technical support.

Hope this clears up a lot of things
