I haven't tried it on the desktop, but I generally dislike rpm distributions anyway.
A few reasons why I hare Open SUSE:
I have a server where every-time I update the dam thing it breaks MYSQL. Its also been know to require a restart for a simple php upgrade too.
It also has very bad defaults for MYSQL, I can't disable the GUI from loading on start up (at least not the normal way). It has quite a poor selection of packages by default. Oh and traceroute only seems to do UDP pings making it next to useless.
I much prefer Debians why of standardising where things go, where as SUSE things get put here there and everywhere. I can put up with the less sheen that Debian has because it has very good defaults, I know where files are going to end up, and well it has the things I want.
