Hi all,
In the near future I need to buy a new NAS. I have had 2 Buffalo units, and the best way I can describe them is "slow, unreliable pieces of excrement". Or something similar.
At the moment all of my family photos are on my laptop, having had to spend a small fortune recovering them from a dead Buffalo (not a phrase I thought I'd ever use!)
I don't think my requirements are particularly unusual. I'm reasablyt technically minded but I'm simply not familiar with all of the brands and models out there. It doesn't have to be big-brand either - quite happy to go for a good-value non-branded product. What I'm looking for is:
- Min. 2-disk RAID
- 3 or 4Gb capacity per disk (6 or 8Gb in total), but happy to buy HDD's separately from enclosure
- In-built P2P client
- small form factor and quiet (it's going to have to fit in or behind a TV cabinet)
- Ethernet connectivity is fine, WiFi is a nice to have, but really not important
- I don't care about remote access
- I would prefer to have Cloud or online backup given that this will be used to store all of my family photo's
- Good value. I don't have huge amounts to spend but don't want buy spend the bare minimum and get rubbish.
- It's not made by Buffalo (just in case this wasn't already clear)
Thanks
