ntl unleashes new range of super speed consumer broadband internet services

Broadband leader to launch three new cable broadband services
ntl to offer the UK’s most competitive 1Mb, 2Mb and 3Mb broadband services
Start the New Year in the fast lane

ntl, the UK’s leading provider of broadband internet services, today unveiled plans to unleash the potential of its fibre optic cable network by launching three super-speed broadband internet services. Available in early 2005, the new services will offer 1Mb, 2Mb and 3Mb broadband connections.

Having been the first company to offer UK consumers a choice of speeds at great value prices, ntl believes that the time is right to offer higher speeds while maintaining mass market prices.

By focusing on more speed ntl is enhancing the part of the broadband service that will make the most difference to customers such as fast downloading of music, emailing digital photos in an instant or delivering high quality video performance.

The three new services will be highly competitive:

£17.99 per month: ntl 1Mb Broadband (monthly usage allowance 5GB) will offer super speed broadband for 60p a day. For the same price BT Broadband offers a basic 512K service with 1GB usage allowance.

£24.99 per month: ntl 2Mb Broadband (monthly usage allowance 30GB) will operate at a stunning speed, but at a price that’s in line with most 512K ADSL services. For the same price BT Broadband offers a 512K service with 15GB usage allowance

£37.99 per month: ntl 3Mb Broadband (monthly usage allowance 40GB) will operate at up to 60 times faster than dial up services. BT and Wanadoo do not provide 2Mb or 3Mb services.

Aizad Hussain, managing director of ntl said: “Our new services are highly competitive and leave rivals stuck in the slow lane. Having led the way towards choice and value propositions I’m delighted that we’re now leading the pack once again by launching these new super-speed services at affordable prices.

"At ntl, we remain committed to be the product and service pioneers in the broadband market. We significantly boosted our newsgroup capacity earlier this year and now we are raising speeds. We are actively taking steps to invest more in our email service and we will be working hard to protect our customers with new anti-virus programmes and protection measures to ensure that the ntl internet experience remains a family-friendly environment.

“We now serve well over 1m broadband residential customers which is over 35% of our total customers and with our new speeds, our product will be the best in the UK by some distance. We continue to be the company that leads from the front to make the vision of Broadband Britain a reality."

If you already have ntl Broadband your service will remain unchanged, but if you wish to upgrade to the new speeds you can – for a one-off administration charge of £25. A dedicated online registration system will be launched in the New Year for existing customers to order an upgrade.

Prices include free installation, free cable modem and free activation. To find out more or to sign up for ntl Broadband please visit www.ntl.com.

Content for super-speed surfing

All customers will be able to access ntl Broadband Plus. For just £3.99 a month, customers can access 15 premium content channels, which would usually cost over £35 per month. The content is ideal for high-speed surfing. ntl Broadband Plus offers a massive choice of premium content including: over 500,000 music tracks to stream or download; live music performances 24/7; 16 premium radio channels; over 5000 music videos on demand; an archive of great music, news events and interviews; hundreds of games to download; 15 digital photo prints a month plus online storage for up to 500 pictures; access the online Encyclopaedia Britannica; kids favourites from the BBC as well as the recently launched Napster Music service.

Lol, we did the same thing from the same place :D (but I INCLUDED formatting :p)

Well, I just sent this email to ntl... I'm not happy.

To whom it may concern.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I've become increasingly concerned over the past few weeks, as I hear
news that you are, again, to increase broadband speeds for no extra
monthly cost - 1Mb for £17.99 (the package I'm currently on), 2Mb for
£24.99 and 3Mb for £37.99 per month.

You will undoubtably know that these would be a rise in speeds from
the current 300k, 750k and 1.5Mb packages. This is all well and good,
but if you do impose tighter caps, as I hear you're planning to do
(e.g. 5GB per month instead of 1GB per day on the £17.99 package),
that most people will disregard this and continue to use 1GB a day, or
perhaps more seeing as though the speed will now be faster.

The only way you can deal with this is to 'kick-out' customers who do
disobey the new caps - which would leave you with significantly few
subscribers than you have today - on top of the 24,800 you're already
planning to get rid of (hear say again).

And there's no chance you're getting £25 for 'administration' from me
- to pay for new Samsung STBs for those on the £24.99 package!

I bid you good luck, however I feel that's in vain - if you could
confirm the above details (although many of your employees already
have), it'd be much appreciated.

--
Best Regards,
James Hamilton.

with those low caps on 2 and 3mbit there all dressed up with no where to go, pointless in getting them. So guess they want to cancel accounts of lots of there users, as its easy to go over 30mb/month on a 512k dsl connection let alone 2mbit and no comment on the 3mbit cap limit :/
