New Pole

I noticed this on a walk yesterday close to home and it's with the network I'm on so I'm hoping it will resolve the one bar signal I get.

To my uneducated eyes it seems even the cells haven't been installed so I shouldn't get any hopes up of it being rfs anytime soon.

Is that correct? Thanks.

Bit difficult to tell due to the sun but looks like a passive antenna site only with a cylinder antenna on the top (no space for active antennas beneath). Is there a planning application for it (with plans) on the council website?

Edit: timing wise - find your nearest piece of string

It's almost identical to the Green 3 "pole of wonder monopole near me, but without any antenna panels. Even has the same Clamp-around brackets near the top.

The cylinder part at the top contains the antennas - its a one piece unit usually around 1.5m tall.

Potentially a Commscope unit like this (for illustration purposes only)

These are sometimes used instead of 3 separate 'flat-faced' panels associated with 'traditional' passive antenna installations.

The clamp around bracket would be used for a microwave link, if required, though typically they are not used (the bracket therefore redundant)

What a half arsed setup!

Don't get me wrong I've not yet had the opportunity to test one of these antennas but its limiting to a networks capabilities to say the least.

5G will only operate at 4x4 instead of 64x64.
What's wrong with 4x4? Your phone/device likely only has 4 receive antennas anyway.

32x32 and 64x64 (which tend not to be deployed these days anyway, as it was mainly Huawei pushing them) active antennas are good for beamforming to drive wider coverage, but for new in-fill sites, like I assume this one is, it should be adequate.

Edit: my guess is that this site wont have n78 anyway, probably only lower frequency 5G (n1/n28) - I'm pretty sure it'd have provision for the active antennas if it was going to

Well, after almost 11 months of checking bidb, they are finally working on it next week. (I've been following one network and the electricity was installed a few months back).

Now the rfs wait begins, am I looking at another year?
