New Three 4G Hub

Links in the device go to three.ie
Works fine and came with the external aerials too.

My rabbit ears made not a bit of difference.

They make 2 to 3db of difference with the 535 I'm using just now in this location and better speeds. Positioning the ears and the router is a pain. 24 miles (cellmapper) from the mast though! I'm blind to the nearest mast. Not tried the 818 here. In the other location where I use a 818 the aerials can actually make things worse on a 525/535. There I can see the mast from points in the garden.

I pulled the plug on my B535, I didn’t really need to use it anymore. I do get it put from time to time tho to tinker about with or to answer questions people put about them on here.

Here's a short unboxing of the router if it's of any interest to anyone folks.

ZTE MF286R

£109 on Amazon.

That's another model, the cat6 version.
The Three one is MF286D.
Oh right, sorry about that folks, cheers Lucian.

There's quite a variety of them on Youtube, surprised at how old some of them are.

The only reason I'm not convinced it's the MF286D is that cacombos has it down as the 268D supports B28 and B38, whereas Three's technical info says that their new router doesn't list B28 or B38, but B32 instead.

cacombos for MF2876D:

Three (assuming 80 should actually be just 8)

Surprisingly, Three have said they can't tell me the exact model or make of the router because it's "commercially sensitive" :). Bit silly for a piece of hardware that's on public display. So I guess we need somebody with the kit to have a direct look at it.

It could be because they've used a heavily customised firmware version?

Vodafone used to (or maybe still do) on their hardware had it's own Vodafone model number and branding, plus the firmware was entirely Vodafone's and had no resemblance to the actual (Huawei, Alcatel etc) web interface.

The router specifications seem excellent. I'm waiting for someone else here to jump first and report back about it before I jump in. I've just bought a house I won't be living in for a while and I want to put 4G internet into it to run some cameras. Not looking for anything expensive and performance shouldn't be much of an issue so it would be a good option.

For £59 (1month at £29 + £30 upfront) half tempted to see what it offers myself, though I'd bet that it'll be SIM locked and customised firmware (reduced functionality).

Go-on be the guinea pig :p
