New Three 5G Hub (NR5103E)

Didn’t someone solve this by removing ipv6 somewhere? There’s a few places in the NR5103E I seen reference ipv6.

I’m yet to use mine fully so won’t have noticed this yet.

It was @GavinAshford that mentioned it in the post above about the adult filter CarlO1460.

That wasn't about disconnections though.

Must admit though, none of my routers ever disconnect.

There are a number of issues that have been discussed recently (I am a relatively new Three broadband user). As far as I know there are at least 3 separate issues in discussion:
  1. Issues with routers stopping passing traffic over the cellular network. This seems to have been solved for many (if not all) users by disabling IPv6
  2. Intermittent issues specifically with SSL connections where reloading the page usually solves the problem. People either gate pages that don't load with an SSL error in in the browser window, or simply part of the page loads but not all of the graphics etc. Clicking reload will normally fully reload the page. It also applies to streaming services etc (eg on my Apple TV). This is the problem I was referring to. Some people found that switching to 4G only solves this for them - however other users including myself report that this isn't the fix.
  3. Some sites were permanently giving an SSL error and wouldn't load with a second attempt. Advice from @GavinAshford was that this is down to the Adult Content filter, and I can confirm that turning off content filtering resolved my problems despite the sites I was using not being Adult sites.
It's very early days, but I haven't yet seen the problems associated with point 2 using the Zyxcel FWA710. This is obviously a different device to the NR5103e and also uses OEM firmware but certainly from a UI perspective it is very similar.

Maybe it will help someone with speed issues with this router but the other day I noticed that my router only used Band 3 for internet and therefore very slow internet connection, something around unstable 10 Mbps, so I went to settings and disabled that band, only using B20, B32 and n78 and speed was back on. I use Smarty which is on Three network that uses bands 1, 3, 20, 32, 78 (I disabled band 1 because that one can be used for 3G as well, which i do not want).

Good summary @BrummyGit - I see more folks adding to the thread on the Three forums and they're linking them all up so hopefully their technical team will resolve it. As you say it only seems to have been an issue in recent months - either related to b14 or something else they changed on their network. My Adult Content filter is off but certainly activating a VPN still seems to resolve it (just a pain always having to run a VPN as some sites don't like the IP as they see it used by multiple accounts and increase anti-spam measures).

Are they now offering a different router, on the selection page it looks to be a different image.

Anyone having problem with three today? The data has become difficult to use. When I use the speedtest app and do a speedtest on my phone the 5g disappears and the speedtest run crashes. And then 5g reappears. It crashes on each speedtest run.

Just tried an Ookla three 5G speed test on my mobile and it's working as normal here pras1011, the 5G icon remained on.

My data seems to be working as normal, maybe just a temporary local issue for you. 🤷‍♂️

If I choose say, b20 and b32, and n78.

Will the router only pick that combination to handle data, or any mix of the 3 bands?

IE just hook to band 20 if it’s only that available?

It'll only use the bands you select CarlO1460.

Yes, select a single band and it"ll just use that.

If a certain band is not available from your own mast it will attempt to get it from a distant one.

I don't have band 28 available on my own mast, but if I select band 28, it will get it from another mast if it can, it usually does get it but speeds are poor for me.

On automatic it just ignores trying to get band 28.

I hope you meant something like that, apologies If I have the wrong end of the stick. :giggle:

Maybe I didn’t explain very well.

If I choose b20 and b3, but b3 isn’t available locally, will it still try and connect to b20? Even though the aggregation of the two isn’t available locally?

Or if it was, will it connect to:

B20 alone
B3 alone
B20 + B3 CA

A mixture of either of the bands I selected.

A mixture as far as I know CarlO1460, my head hurts now. 😁

How are you getting along with your soap dispenser?
Is it working OK for you?
I’ve not really used it yet, still living in the north east but within the next month I’ll be back in Chester/Wrexham so it’ll be my only source of WiFi.

It does fetch ~80\10 on Vodafone (Lebara) which is pretty good considering iPhone 14 Pro only gives around 40-50.

Oh that's not too bad then, sounds promising. (y) :)
