New Three 5G Hub (NR5103E)

The app doesn't appear to be working atm if you read the reviews on play they have broken it
I believe the latest Zyxel Air app available on Playstore no longer supports connecting to Three branded nr5103eV2. You have to use an old version v1.1.2.230925 and connect manually using HTTPS on port 443 (it's a pretty useless app anyway, so hardly worth bothering with).

Has anyone successfully changed the dns on this router?
I've selected static dns in the settings and put Control D adblocking dns addresses in there but it is still using 3's own dns servers.

Yep, I changed to Google's & Cloudlare's dns on mine, no problem.

Settings / Network Setting / Home Networking / DNS Values: Static and set to 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 respectively. Scrolled down and hit Apply and done.
Restart router.

That's exactly what I've done but the status page still shows the router using 3's own dns servers.

My router is a bit flakey on some screens, i cannot open up the log settings page when using Thorium browser, but every page opens up fine on a fresh install of Google Chrome browser, go figure.
Maybe try a different browser, if you have not already ;)

I'm no expert, but aren't you changing the DHCP DNS servers rather than the WAN interface DNS servers?

So when a device joins your network, DHCP will give it an IP etc. If you look at the connection details for your device, presumably you will see it's been given DNS servers of 8.8.8.8/1.1.1.1 to use.

Whereas your router is still using the Three DNS servers.

I'm not sure you can modify the DNS servers the router CELL interface is using? (someone cleverer than me will know).

If you go to Network Settings > Broadband and then click the little pencil at the bottom of the 3rd interface for ETHWAN, you'll find in there config values for stuff like MTU & DNS servers. But the two available Cellular WAN haven't got these values to change.

So I'm not sure you can change the DNS servers your cellular connection is using - any experts out there that can shed some light?

A question about this router and Three and how it handle IP passthrough. Some pre-amble: (it's a V2 btw)
- I found out eventually that using the Three phone app menu to enable WAN port then removes the IP Passthrough option in the proper Zyxel admin menu.

- I got IP passthrough working fine.
- It seems to passthrough on LAN1 (and poss LAN2) - I use LAN1

What is confusing me is it gets'2 external IPs.

The main external IP is the one that "whats my ip" etc find, and all my external stuff sees - it's the real one, and it works (dynamic, but that's not an issue). I VPN in on that address etc.

What IS odd, is that to access my router for admin, on my LAN, I have to enter the external IP MINUS or PLUS one number. So if it is 92.x.x.230 to the whole world, verified, then the admin Ip to access it will be 92.x.x.229, OR, sometimes, 92.x.x.231

Now I know a bit about networking but this is odd. I assume the address Im using to access the admin menu isn't really an external IP, just something the router is doing?

Moved to a new house and most rooms are getting 300Mbps download speeds on my S23.

However my 5103E is only getting around 30Mbps. Both are voxi Sims.
I have tried both apns but no difference. I have moved the router around. Any idea what's going on?

I'm sure someone else with more knowledge will have a better idea, but I'd hazard a guess that the 5103e is locking onto a different mast (perhaps closer but only 4G?) or it's using different bands which may be slower? I think you'll have to look carefully at the Cell & bands that both routers are using.

Is there any way to manually lock to a specific tower / cell ID on this router? I connect to a mast that's not my nearest, but Cellmapper is now reporting that the mast nearest to me has had more bands added to it, so I'd like to give it a go. Restarting the router simply reconnects to the more distant mast. Also, the bands that are now on the new mast are the same as the ones I connect to on the distant mast, so locking the bands doesn't force it to connect to the mast I want it to connect to.

Hi bertie_bassett, sadly no, the NR5103E doesn't feature any cell locking features.:(

which router then you will say is the best all round 5G router and also has cell locking features?
I'm not up to scratch on cell locking 5G routers I'm afraid raiden, hopefully someone will pop in soon with some suggestions for you. :)

yeah (y) my VN007+ has cell locking but it not the best 5G router around, as has it's issues, especially overheating, so was looking to upgrade.

If your two towers are located in different directions, you could knock up a cardboard & foil reflector like those shown here & see if you can 'persuade' your router to connect to the other Cell:

But these posts seem to suggest it's not very likely it'll work (but cornflakes box, PrittStick & foil is pretty cheap to try). Perhaps a professional directional antenna might work.

Hi all

Can anyone confirm what router Three is shipping at the moment? If you go to their postcode checker it's showing a picture of the MC801A I think?

Or is the website just bugged and they're shipping the NR5103EV2 still?
