Typically that engineer will only have a vague idea of timings, take it you will be getting FTTP but timing is variable shall we say. Like a traffic warden telling you the ticket will be cancelled easily if you appeal, so no point in them ripping it up, they are trained to give a hopeful answer .Just wanted to come back and thank you guys - I had a fruitful conversation with an Openreach engineer working near to the property who told me that I will have Gigabit broadband withing the next 4 weeks, the system is already upgraded and just finalising connections!!
