Nexfibre - Rollout Discussion

Are there any existing VMO2 (Nexfibre) customers on here?

I'm curious what packages they offer and prices but it doesn't seem as simple as checking the VM website and inserting random postcodes as I imagine the bulk of packages and prices returned will be HFC/DOCSIS related.
When I've asked people doing work round here they said to expect a letter drop. I've seen others on these forums mentioning trials.

There have been various vans here every day this week. The fibre that had been laid was connected up a black box, which was left on the floor next to the pole then later fixed to it. Some Douglas Communications vans came and fed wires from said box into the back of their vans (testing maybe?) before leaving. Looking at the Better Internet Dashboard website it seems Nexfibre don't have anything further planned in the Tottington area beyond the second week of January.

Nexfibre is the roll out project, not the ISP.

You’ll be ordering via the VM website.

All new builds are running on the same infrastructure you’ll have.

You’ll be able to get the VM TV service too.

I covered this in my post. Hence I referenced the "VM website"

The reason I worded "Are there any existing VMO2 (Nexfibre) customers on here?" the way I did was to distinguish from VM HFC/RFoG package/prices.

Yeah you referenced the VM web site but Virgin have been selling an FTTP service for a couple of years now. The residential service packages are the same on HFC and FTTP.

Virgin no longer install coax, so all brand new builds are on FTTP. There is a converter to coax in the brown box on the wall. The virgin media hub is still coax hence the converter requirement. You will also be able to order the TV service.

TV and Broadband service as normal per the VM site.

Telephone service VOIP only as no copper in the FTTP areas. VM will mention in the order it will be a VOIP service.

Inclusive of O2/Volt offerings.

Thanks for the confirmation. In my naivety, I wasn't sure if they'd offer different packages for HFC/RFoG compared to XPS-PON.

I'm completely new to VM so it's all a learning curve so far.

No problem.(y)

If you have a mobile on O2 then have a read of the Volt benefits / rewards which they apply to the broadband and mobile service.

Virgin also run plenty of cash back offers on various cashback sites.

Try NE63 0SY if you want to nose at a nexfibre area. It should show, but i think VM are making some website changes so areas I know have gone live are showing as coming soon today.

There’s no normal TV in a Nexfibre area and no phone at all (no VOIP)

you get broadband and the option of the streaming puck which is very different to what you get for TV via RfoG or HFC.

the hub provided is the 5x which connects direct to the fibre, there’s no coax.

This is not a number that we could verify as being operated by Virgin Media. In addition, anybody claiming to be an ISP Rep is not allowed to post on this forum until they've contacted us from an official VM email address, so that we can verify their identity first and apply rep status to the account.

Thanks @Martyn - I note your sig states "Gig2" but I couldn't' see that in the screenshot. Did you get that through a trial or something?

Edited to correct blatant typo. I was still waking up when I posted this.

Sorry for all the questions. I'm trying to educate myself as I go.

I've spoken to the NexFibre contractors today who said this was the last day of blowing fibre through the ducts and they would be back in January to carry out splicing. I asked if they were installing CBTs in January too and he said "We don't use CBTs, we use something similar" but wouldn't (or couldn't) elaborate.

Can anyone familiar elaborate? I'm simply curious and trying to learn.

The image shows my pole. It has an Openreach CBT on it and then the massive box to the left of it is the nexfibre equivalent of a CBT.

Thanks for this image Kris. Your box looks the same as the one I posted further up. More people have been here working on the box/pole today and I had a missed call from the Virgin sales team (I'd registered interest a while ago). Will see if they try calling again.

Sorry if this is hijacking but it seems relevant to general topic.

Are there any Nexfibre customers here could advise what they have done for traditional landline provision (if anything)? I presume there is no telephony with the service.

Wondering if I can port my number as its still used by elderly relatives.

If not is there a decent SIP service they are using for non-mobile telephony?
