Nexfibre - Rollout Discussion

Did you get a letter through the door that they are in the area perchance?

It seems that nexfibre are doing things differently and they are building everywhere. I can understand your trepidation through many years of reading that VM would miss streets fairly frequently in the old days.

No letter.i knew they where coming as spoke to a surveyor last year..and been monitoring road works and telecoms checkers ever since..only appeared on build list the other day...

spoke to a surveyor last year? Can you expand?
Yea sorry that was a bit vague wasn't it..
Yea so last year...September or October.. I noticed a on behalf of virgin media jacket on a bloke looking up a pole..naturally ran over and asked...and he said virgin media coming to my town next year...so from that moment I have been checking roadworks etc...noticed last month nexfibre applications around town...and only the other night...application for my street...but its a big street..and with 36m of ducting lay...with the telecoms work tracker app showing work pinpointed much more up my street..worry that they won't get to me :-)..but then..bidb has the area tight outside my house highlighted...so dnt know which is right :-)

I think they'll do your street no problems. Just be mindful that it may not be instantly available once they've physically dug the street.

In the interest of keeping this thread updated with my own experiences, I've noticed an "issue" over the last two evenings.

My typical TBBQM (This was an example from Friday but any previous day since it was installed has looked like below)

I can't reconcile the increase in latency to anything internal on my network so I can only assume the cause is external to me.

Interestingly, maybe, my two immediate neighbours on either side of me had VM installed over the weekend but I'm hoping that's merely a coincidence and not congestion already. I will see what this evening brings.

Don’t forget XGS-PON or GPON is a shared medium. You are sharing your PON port with however many neighbours are in their split ratio. Maybe a new connection has joined your PON port and someone is going absolutely HAM on it already but one extra customer should not be doing that.

The spike in the evening time at the golden hour is not a good sign though. Let’s hope it’s a blip.

Openreach e-mailed me this week to state we were now added to their build plans, and indeed, today I've seen vans in the street and men putting fibres in the chambers. Not sure I can stomach the thought of VM customer service when perfectly good Openreach services will be available soon...

I've seen that effect a few times but still have no idea what causes it.

Fortunately, mine is back to normal now -

Have you considered setting up another test to compare and contrast against the TBBQM?

I also use this as a backup test(s).
I actually set one up when my connection was first installed,

I randomly logged into my sisters VM account the other day, and see she was paying £65 odd for tv she never used, 250mb (volt) and a £18 odd phone package, So after a bit googled what she could get and suprised she could get youfibre, so setup youfibre for my sister, who is disabled, you know how simple it was to talk to someone on live chat or phone call, it was like a few minutes chat every time, yet you try do anything with virgin on live chat, thats 45 minute gone easily. Luckily it only took 24 minutes to end her contract after a offer for 350mb for £54 which was declinded, really annoys me when she gets sold stuff like call plans etc when shes deaf and has never used it, I wish compnaies had a section for disabilites to see what services there vulnerable customers would actually benefit from. she now pays £29.99 for 1000/1000 Shame I don't live down south anymore lol.

I had to cancel my virgin recently as the offer for being a trialist was £72 lol, cancelled and reordered it for £33, unnessassary waste of effort isnt it? having to collect the old equipment, get engineer around to set it up such a waste.

I know that April 1st is supposed to be the launch of the higher tier Openreach packages, indeed I know some folks who are on the 1.8Gbps trial and they're doing well...

Hi all.
Just wondering...I am over the moon that nexfibre have now appeared on the plans for my street..however..I am worried that they will do some of the street but not all..
As you can see from the bidb screenshot...the plan looks right where I am...however..according to

UK telecoms streetworks map

It's further up the road and only installing 37 metres of ducting...to the telegraph pole that Feeds my house...I do see a cover on floor right next to it..but if going on uk telecoms map...where the work pinpoints..I can't see any more covers going up the road to it...so wonder how it will get to my pole..
For people that have had nexfibre work in your street..should I be worried that my part of the street will be missed?or shall I take it as the whole street will be enabled?
Many thanks in advance guys..been waiting for fttp for many years...now worried for some reason will miss me out :)
Do you have Open Reach poles around your area? and do they have black blocks at the top or near the top?

Well gutted..I've seen more roadworks for nexfibre come on one.network and bidb....but now all of a sudden..my street has been removed..no notice that says cancelled.. just removed completely from map plans..:-( was supposed to start 3rd April...

So two months after NexFibre completed their rollout, and we were able to place orders with VM, I got this email over the weekend -

So we now have OR GPON and NexFibre XGS-PON available. By comparison, the NexFibre rollout took 52 days from start to finish. OR took 5 years to complete (the CBTs have been in the footboxes since summer 2022 for example).

Last week contractors for Nexfibre installed grey subduct, the odd purple straw and, at the entrance to the estate where they'll connect it to the existing VMO2 network, green microduct into Openreach duct and chambers here.

We are surrounded by HFC with some XGSPON available in the city perhaps a couple of kilometres away.

Anyway, point is we're an infill of about 80 SDUs and a small apartment block, so looks like these are a thing also, even if surrounded by HFC for now.

Will keep an eye on it and let folks know. While we're well served already might be good news for those currently unable to get any FTTP services but surrounded by the cable network.

So how many networks can you get now?
