Next Batch of Openreach FTTP Announcement

Ah that's disappointing. A town less than a mile away from me made the July list. Have been waiting patently since.

At least the infrastructure is close and it is very likely OR will continue to expand out from their coverage. Particularly if you are on an exchange linked to the one in the town.

The COVID-19 lockdown may be having an impact on some aspects like this, as we saw that some non-essential updates did get delayed by the prior lockdown and so the same may be true this time around too.

I think there was an update due around now, but my understanding is that it would be more of a re-jig of the existing plan (they did this in Jan 2020 too as borders for some existing exchanges changed etc.) than another big announcement of new locations. But so far we haven't seen that either.

Wouldn't get excited even if your town makes the list. Ours was listed and no planning permission/roadworks or any sign of life regarding the FTTP upgrade, and it was announced at the start of 2020.

Another factor may be the forthcoming Outside/In BDUK procurement.

OR and other major providers have already announced their investment plans for the next couple of years and can increase activity if their resources and funding are there. There is a lot already to do.

They may be hesitant to announce any further investment areas until the procurement areas are clearly defined and possibly contracts are awarded, holding back any potential capacity for their tenders.

Yep, like I said, not really announcing new areas, just progress and some changes to existing exchanges. A proper rollout announcement should be coming but maybe spring is a better bet for it.

With the backlog of what has already been announced previously have they the capacity to schedule a lot more ? I am lucky enough to be in an area mentioned in the previous announcement and was after an update, I wasn't expecting much new due to the size of the last.

Neat. My area is scheduled to being building in the next 3 months. I wonder how long until I can order (I suppose that's a bit of a how long is a piece of string question though).
