What is a lan?

A LAN party involves a group of computer users playing games with each other across a Local Area Network, or LAN.

Groups of gamers ranging widely in size can be found at LAN parties all over the world, interacting with each other through their computers as well as interpersonally.

A few things distinguish a LAN party from other types of computer gaming.

The first is that participants bring their own computers and must connect themselves to the network or game lobby of the game being played.

This means that the game operates much more quickly, since gamers are not sharing bandwidth with internet traffic and no lag occurs (everyone knows lag can be a pain in the ass!).

The third aspect is of interpersonal connections there is nothing like giving someone the nod after you have just pwned them!

Here is a list of what to bring to the LAN

Your Computer (obviously)
Monitor
Power cables and four way plug socket (surge protected preferred)
Keyboard & mouse
Joypad or steering wheel
Ethernet network card (or onboard)
Gaming headset
Sleeping bag or airbed (bring a cushion)
Change of clothes
Game discs
OS discs incase of any mis-haps
Your computer chair (chairs are available but cant guarantee comfyness)
Some deodorant and a toothbrush
Your own cup and fork (or own food and drink)
As there may not be internet available, an internet dongle (they are cheap from any mobile shop)

Any questions or if you are just curious please come on the forums and say hi everyone is friendly :)

Molloy you can't just post several duplicate messages on a forum with a promotional URL and expect it not to be treated as spam, you didn't even explain what the event was. You're quite lucky because in this case I've not flagged it as spam due to your UK ISP status, otherwise you'd have been blacklisted from thousands of forums.

In the future, contact the site admin first before posting something like that.

I havent left several duplicate messages I left one? Its no problem my friend delete the whole thread, the reason I posted is because I typed in lan parties in north west on google and someone created a thread on these very forums a few years back with no problem so I didnt think it was a problem. Like I say apologies for upsetting anyone just delete.

also apologies if the event wasn't described properly as this is an I.T. based forum I presumed people would know what a Lan gaming event was, I will make sure I explain a lot better if the time arises where admin allow me to post in the future. Sorry one more thing, you said you haven't marked it as spam but it says "removed reason:spam" I disagree that it is spam, as spam is usually regarded as something to acquire commercial or monetary gain our lan event is a non-profit organisation and we are offering a service to the gaming community.

SPAM is junk, it doesn't strictly have to be commercial, but people coming on to your forum and 1st posting a self-promotional link can get you flagged. It's good to ask first, as most people usually do. I don't mind if you re-post the link now that you've explained.
