No alternative to BT FTTP available

I'm currently with BT FTTP but when my contract ends soon I'd like to see if there's a better deal. When I search for other providers that supposedly run on Openreach, like A&A or 1pBroadband, Plusnet I get told there's no service in my area.

Not sure why I get this message since we've had FTTP for a couple of years now.

Anyone have any ideas about this?

it all depends who has capacity to your headend exchange ( cablelink)
What exchange is your headend located in and others may be ablt to enlighten you on what options you have

Sounds like a possible database issue at either Openreach or BT Wholesale. If you have working FTTP service with BT, then a transfer to others will be possible.

I'm happy to check this out for you. If you can raise a sales ticket with your full address details via https://support.aquiss.net/en/tickets/create/step1 and mark it for my attention.

Thanks for all the replies.

Not sure how I find out where my headend is but probably somewhat academic anyway.

Of the other suggestions Sky, Talktalk, Vodafone - No. Zen probably but more expensive than my current BT connection. EE - yes but almost the same price as BT but for a slower connection.

Thanks for the offer of checking on Aquiss but apart from being more expensive than my BT connection I'd rather not have to enter all my contact details only to find out you can't do it. No other ISP I've tried needs this information.

The other associated question is about VoIP. Currently I'm using BT Digital Voice but virtually all of the alternative ISPs are selling Broadband only packages - no landline. Now am I right in assuming they're refering to the old wired phone service and they will all offer VoIP. This is not obvious up front when looking at the deals.

No worries, I wasn't expecting you to join, merely to see if we could resolve an issue for you or point you in the right direction. I therefore gracefully withdraw my offer.

Stop sell of copper voice on new starts September 5th, 2023 I am assuming providers are changing their processes as we speak if not already.

Unless the ISP specifically states a voice service in association with their product then they will not port your number. Things may change over the next few days but for instance Talktalk still do not appear to be offering voice over FTTP despite VoIP product guidance on their web site with the message "We’re sorry but at the moment our Full Fibre data only packages don’t support a landline". EE now offer a voice option (same as BT pricing) later in the order process. Plusnet do not.
Vodafone offer voice. Sky appear to provide facility by default but encourage you to select a call plan. I know Zen also use their router but others may offer ATA, check the ISP support pages to confirm.

You might have been getting routed to Manchester and back down. Could have contacted Aquiss and asked why it's higher than normal and got it fixed.

Why would we route from Manchester? I think you are confusing us with another ISP.

I was just trying to come up with a reason why the op had worse performance on your network compared to other isp. Being routed somewhere else north seemed like a plausible explanation for that.
