No comments on some news articles, intentional?

More a question for @Mark.J than anything else.

I noticed I couldn't comment on this article:

Then looked through and realised none of the "ISP Special Offers" articles can be commented on: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/category/uk-isp-special-offers

I'm not sure if this is a bug or deliberate, although if deliberate, a message other than "Javascript must be enabled to post (most browsers do this automatically)" might be helpful :)

As meritez suggested it's probably intentional.

Yup . See

I'm currently testing a report button for when people post abusive crap, although before deploying it I first have to ensure that bots don't auto-click it, which is a bit tricky to add with the way the CMS works.

I'm also playing with a couple of plugins that might shift or re-direct comments into this member forum, but long-term support is the big concern with those.

It's worth reviewing what percentage of comments are valuable versus the percentage which are noise and garbage.

Directing people to discuss in the forum might encourage informed debate. People browsing who just want to fire and forget will probably just waste the time of anyone reading their rant.

That sounds like a nice idea, if articles would have an associated mini-forum at the end of is for discussion which was also visible in the main forum.

Agreed sounds like a good idea, if people have to register before posting it might help cut down on some of the "drive by" comments seen on some articles. The forums here have always been a very pleasant, informed place for discussion.

100% agree. The forums are, with rare exception, very pleasant, good folks, good exchange, good humour. Great.

In total contrast to the news article which are full of bile and spite, and repetitive nonsense.

Tie the news comments to the same email address / username as used on here - I reckon the anonymous bile and garbage would be fraction of what it otherwise is.

There's otherwise absolutely no accountability on the news comments and the idiots let fly whatever nonsense pops into their desperately vacant and tragically lonely minds. They know they can get away with it...
