No texts being received since porting number, not sorted by new provider. Do I port to original sim provider to reset it all?

Without my knowledge, my elderly father ported his number from Vodafone (as his contract had ended and one of his friends just found a cheaper deal for him without much thought) to Lyca Mobile last week and now cannot receive text messages but can send them.

Trying to contact Lyca is a task in itself to get this sorted. They have texted twice that the issue has been resolved (weirdly texts from Lyca customer support get through) but the problem still persists. We have tried the sim in different phones and done everything else they've suggested like restarting the phone. This is definitely a porting issue as he has never had this issue before his number transferred.

I have spent many hours this week with them via live chat or telephone and have had enough as no progress has been made. He can't access his bank account as that requires text verifications, not to mention messages from from his friends, support workers, home help, etc. and it is now starting to really worry him. He doesn't want to lose his phone number which is years old.

After reading through this forum about porting issues, am I right in assuming that if I port his number right back to the original provider which was Three (3) many years ago, this basically resets everything from a porting point of view and then we can then port out again to whoever we choose (Not Lyca !)?

Would I be better doing this route than porting straight to another provider?

Thank you very much for your help. It is most appreciated.

Wow, I never head of this lyca mobile until started reading about the card leakage. Port it away of them?

Shocked to be honest

I'm guessing PAC to 65075 isn't working for OP then? Sometimes PACs can be sent to your email as well as a text from your operator so worth having a check.

I would definitely port back to Three though, that's for sure. I think you should be able to port to a SMARTY SIM fine (5GB for £6) which should hopefully fix everything.

Sounds like a split port, essentially the messages aren't being sent to lyca from 3's core network, Lyca would need to contact 3 to correct this, tbh though better to just port out from Lyca you and your father will be happier, if you want a good EE NVMo then try 1p mobile

It does sound like a split port. But long time existing Lyca users also have this problem the minute….non incoming texts, no 5G (when it worked perfectly fine before) and basically the network is a mess. Payment details are also being leaked apparently. Get him away quick!

Thank you for all your help so far.

So am I best switching to Three (3) to play it safe, who was the the original sim provider years ago to start with, or should I be okay to go straight to another provider? It's looking like 1pmobile at the moment.

Honestly, it's hard to say.
To be on the safe side, I'd say port quickly into a 3 pay as you go sim and then back out again (If three is not wanted).
On paper, it should be fine to just go straight to 1p, but Lyca will be Lyca and they love to mess things up. At least Three's porting system is robust and there's a higher chance of it working properly first time.

I agree with this, some of the lyca caused problems have followed me onto lebara, so i would port back to 3 first!

I've had this issue when changing sims in the past and it's been down to the phone locking in the MMS settings to the old provider.

That would affect MMS messages. SMS does not need any specific settings on the telephone to be received as long as the network is transmitting them to your sim.
