Non Credit / Debit Payments

Does anyone know of an ISP other than the Post Office who take cheques as payment please ?
Like dating sites if one is not careful, naive or just a bit unwary, the big ******** can and will milk your account until the sun turns orange if card payment is the only option !
Should a single payment method even be legal ? Isuggest not.

Up until the end of last year I could of pointed you to three, although since then I now only know of the Post Office that do this as the others have stopped. That's probably because Cheque's are slow and add an extra layer of administrative hassle, which in a cut-throat, tight-profit margins and real-time ISP market doesn't work so well.

I'm not sure who still takes them as payment but a few ISPs do frequent these forums and it will be interesting to see if any of them respond.

Not all ISPs use DD for payments sone use SO which leaves you in control of the payments. You set it up with your bank you have to do any changes also remember to stop payments if you leave.

We do allow customer's to pay by cheque if they wish. Obviously it is not one of our preferred methods of payment, however, we have no issue with customer's using this payment method, and in fact we don't even charge a fee for doing so!!

We did offer Cheque but this turned in to a bad idea. We found that even giving customers 14 days notice, plus a further 7 days until suspension was not sufficient for some to ensure payment reached us.

We marked a cheque as paid before it had cleared so no further notices were sent.

Due to the problems this caused, we removed it. We do offer PayPal which is a manual method akin to Cheque as you have to make it manually and it debits your bank account a few days later - seems to work well as an alternative.

Paypal Scams afoot

As local Neighborhood Watch Co-ordinator I have very recently been informed that there is email scam going that tells you that your Paypal Acc has been frozen or compromised and to mail your acc details- same as HSBC and Halifax Scams that I have been getting the last year or so but as I havent got these I automatically delete -DONT EVEN OPEN

PayPal spam/scams like that, including those for banks, are actually pretty common and have been going for years. As a general rule I wouldn't open images or links from any emails that reported to come from a bank or similar service. Anyway it's not 100% related to this topic.

A lot of ISPs will try to insist on a DD, but will cave in and allow a SO eventually; at least this is my experience.
The other option is to pay using a Credit Card, which offers more protection and, if the worst happens, you can say you have lost your card, which gets a new one issued and all payments on the old card stopped.

Well we no longer accept cheques, but we will accept payment by Internet banking, BACS, Standing Order, Direct Debit, card payment and paypal, you can even bring cash into our office if you have the need, but cheques are expensive for us to process in relation to the margins in broadband sales.
