Now Broadband still selling PSTN?

I’ve noticed that Now Broadband (owned by sky broadband) still sell PSTN with their FTTC products. I thought OR announced the WLR stop sell the other day?

Do sky have more control over OR lines then?

As above. LLU operations have control over their own networks and if they want to keep traditional phone line operations they can do so until there’s no more copper lines in the Openreach network infrastructure. There’s not really any time limit on them.

The stop sell is only really a concern for BT and their related companies, and some of the ISPs that use their wholesale offering.

The vast majority of ISPs have already made or started the transition to VoIP regardless of if they are obliged to do so or not. I don’t think it’s long before NOW Broadband do the same. Their parent company Sky have already made provisions for it. NOW would simply have to put a new model of router into circulation and they would be more or less good to go for new customers too.

Any provider, even BT can still elect to use copper for their POTs service with the LLU line cards in the MDF. It's a good thing that a base-level of powered analogue copper should remain in place. Especially for public telephones that are outside and don't require a power supply.

I also noticed this recently. I find it interesting they still currently sell that especially when Sky themselves have moved away from older PSTN lines for new customers.

If I had to guess the team at NOW are waiting for Sky to provide them with a rebranded version of the newer router so they can start to provide SoGEA connections.

What I do wonder though is whether NOW will actually provide a digital voice line like Sky or if they'll go down the Plusnet route of scrapping landline completely to differentiate their products more between the 2 companies.

I wouldn't be surprised if they adopt this approach. In the past Now Broadband always used to do their deals that included an anytime calls package as part of the deal. But for the last couple of years it's pretty much all been broadband with PAYG calls instead. They definitely seem to be making a shift away from calls being a big part of their offering already.

If they do this, they can keep issuing their current cheap and outdated router too rather than needing a rebrand of the current Sky model.
