O2 4G on B20 - Data download speed?

Hi,

O2 is finally getting round to upgrading their mobile masts in my area from 2G only, to 4G. Their 4G service will be on B20 - 800Mhz - and they will be using radio backhaul links.

Can anyone tell me what sort of data download speeds we should expect from this service?

Anywhere between 0.25Mbps-7Mbps to 40-100Mbps, never usually higher than those two and most of their masts are in the first bracket. Depends how many people using it in your area

It'll be barely trickling down.

it'll be alike to "drinking your data through a collapsed straw"
thankyou whoever originally commented that about O2 and Vodafone services, it is most definitely true :)

02 should be shot at dawn for such a crime!
Strangely, everywhere I have tried 02 via Lyca, it's really awful apart from the Abbey clock tower, it hits 100 megs every time, which is really strange, and unheard of.

I think there has to be a fault somewhere. 😁

This is the theoretical maximum of 4G on a 10mhz slice of 4G. If you live in a busy area then it will be about 80-90% slower than this. Expect speeds of between 2-30mbit/s if you’re lucky then you won’t have many O2 users in your area.

In all honesty don’t expect your speeds to be that much faster. O2’s network is jammed with users these days.

I spot a dynamic continent!!!

Hopefully better than my O2 service . I screwed myself by getting O2 as my daily driver through getting it on contract with VM gig1 . Can't wait till it's up so I can switch my number to a better provider.
PS : I'm in sight of the tower at 3 to 4 football field away .

Thanks to all for your feedback.

Looks as if O2’s D/L speeds will be similar to what we get from EE’s B20 only sites in the area.
