Phoned o2 this morning about having my MAC number as I was going to leave because of the sale to SKY.

They are offering their existing I assume long term customers who are thinking of leaving a years FREE contract.

So as from today I have broadband FREE for the next year.

:):):)

EDIT: Since making the call to o2 my broadband went off and came back with faster at a faster speed, I was getting roughly 9.5Mpbs down speed, now getting 11.64Mbps, up speed about the same, a little under 1Mbps.

This was withing 15 minutes of making that call.

I suspect the broadband speed issue isn't related to your call but on the other hand.. I'll ask to see if others in the same situation have noticed something similar :).

Anyway if you had an O2 mobile phone then they've also been offering rebates worth £100 or up to £200 off customer bills since the news first broke one month ago. The idea is to keep people on the ISP so that they can secure an extra £20m.

Sounds like somebody might have reset your line profile, which might cause the line to try and find the best speed and this can result in disconnection as faster speeds may be unstable. If you post your router stats (attenuation, noise margin etc.) then that may offer a better idea of what's happening.
