Obtain Openreach Dexgreen CSP Demarcation Box

Where can I obtain an Openreach Dexgreen CSP Demarcation Box?

I’m having some works done on my house and at the same time want to prepare for FTTP which has just arrived in North Hampshire. It’s an opportunity to do the prep and get a tidy install. My plan was to install the CSP box (at the top of the existing grey trunking), and run conduit from the rear cable entry all the way to the modem location and then have it plastered over and painted. The Openreach installer can then do the fibre install etc.

I've tried all the usual places for Openreach bits and pieces but have drawn a blank.

I fully understand that I shouldn’t be obtaining or installing the CSP, but I prefer to be practical about these things.

Thanks in advance for suggestions. If you can directly help me please send me a personal message.

Thank You.

Even if you manage to get a hold of one, the installer could just refuse to use it as they haven't supplied it.

You are better off speaking to a service delivery engineer, if they have the kit onboard, ask for the inside out cable too, and put that in whilst you put in the trunking. That saves the hassle of trying to thread it through on the installation.
I wouldn’t worry so much about fitting the demarcation point, the cable has to be routed through it a certain way, just leave around 2m if the IO cable coiled by the capping.

I started trying to get dimensions of the box from the manufacturer so I could bring the conduit through the wall inline with the rear cable entry (as shown in the Dexgreen install guide). No luck.

I've spoken to people doing nearby installs - no luck on a box / dimensions / inside-out cable. They have only what's needed for the booked jobs.

The reason for this thread was to get a box myself and essentially use as a drill template.

What I did learn from people doing nearby installs was that they don't use the CSP rear cable entry because it's too much agro. This is exactly the case for doing it myself, because I will spend the time.

Drilling, conduit, draw tape etc won't be a problem.

Point taken but it appears that they may be simple holes not designed flanges so OR may not allow their use on an external wall (OR best practice and. actual installation techniques may vary between teams). I understand FTTP drop wire can on occasion be taken directly to an indoor location without a CSP as do some New Build feeds.

Not sure if this picture is typical but it infers that the Distribution Fibre and Customer Fibre is connected within the CSP but then comes out downwards into the entry cover.
Lots of existing entry points are into hallways where there is no power and not suitable for routers etc. So many installs will place the CSP at the their existing duct entry and then taken round the building to enter elsewhere using a straight hole through the wall to the ONT.

The internal cable must not have any bends less than around 3cm. It could be your conduit will need to be angled appropriately without bends (at either end) and a near straight run.

Working on the assumption if you make it easy for the installer he will use it and I agree that preparing in advance is a good idea. Any issues though they may not.

The other variable here is whilst dexgreen is currently in use and in the supply chain, you have no assurance that dexgreen will be what is used by the time your install gets done

Openreach typically don't drill through the back of the CSP, but rather take the internal cable through the bottom entry into the CSP and drill a separate hole. Presumably this gives them added flexibility to position the through-wall entry in the ideal place for where the cable will enter the house, and also make its much easier for them to match things up.

There's shouldn't be an issue coming through the back entry of the CSP - but really you'd want to have the actual CSP there. As you've found they're not really available on the open market / occasional one turns up on Fleabay. Openreach also issue them to developers for new build construction for them to integrate...during err build.

For what its worth, I think you're better off waiting for the engineer on the day and letting them deal with it.

There is also an internal CSP option, just to throw in another curve-ball.

Agree, before OR arrived to do my install, I installed copex with a draw wire from the eves into the location in my loft where I wanted the ONT which is where all my Cat5e ends up and where I had the previous VM coax and router. When the OR guys turned up to install I showed them my handiwork they smiled and said this was going to make their job super easy, and as a result I have an internal CSP which is next to the ONT in the loft.

This even though it meant them doing a reprovide as my fibre had been preallocated to a different pole in the street that was optimal to serve the wrong corner of the house where I had run the copex. But the reprovide was just a phone call and a software change, and was the path of least resistance...

Hence my suggestion upthread to just concentrate on providing a cable path to make their life easy, the rest can be sorted on the day.
