OFNL and SFP+ module? HOW?

Hi
I have been with OFNL for the last 6 years. I've got Mikrotik sf4011 with sfp+ port. The ONT I've got is ZTE ZXHN F620. The plan is to get rid of ONT and connect the fiber line straight to the mirotik through sfp+ module. Has anyone tried that with success? Which SFP module to buy? Configuration? Any comment will be helpful. Cheers

to eliminate unnecessary devices (ONT) and use all possible ports. Good reason? I lack a power socket so that saves me one.
So have you got a compatible SFP module?

The OFNL userbase isn’t very large and because of that I think it’s unlikely you’ll find someone who can definitively answer your question. You’re just going to have to try for yourself at your own risk.

https://hack-gpon.org/ will help you. At the very very least you’ll need to spoof your ONTs SN.

an fyi though, this isn’t eliminating a device. You’re just moving it. Keep in mind that an SFP ONT still has the same software on it as your OFNL provided one does. It’s still a Linux box that’s running, just at a different form factor. This doesn’t reduce complexity, it greatly increases it.

Asides from that, good luck! It’ll be interesting to know how you get on.

Strange that the OP has had OFNL for six years but “lacks a power socket”…pretty odd or weak reasoning.

Anyway yeah. Spoof away and crack on.

There are high risks in doing this, and very little in the way of rewards.

It will certainly cost you money, as you buy at least one, possibly two or three different SFP+ ONTs until you find one that works (if it does at all). If you can get one from ZTE that increases the chances of it working.

There are risks that your service will become less reliable due to the new ONT not interoperating properly with a different vendor's OLT.

There's a risk that ONFL are doing remote monitoring of the ONT, and if the SFP+ doesn't support the same OAM protocols, it may simply not monitor any more and ONFL won't be able to detect degradation of the service.

There's a risk that if there's a genuine fibre problem, but ONFL can detect remotely that you're not using their supplied model of ONT, they may refuse to investigate further. At that point you can always switch back to their supplied ONT, but why put yourself through the pain of that? Changing your network *while there's an active fault* is in itself tricky.

If the issue is power ports, and you don't like a power strip, you could spend the money on a small DC UPS with multiple DC outputs. You can then keep the router and ONT powered up for a short while during a power cut.

BTW, I don't know what you mean by "sf4011". Mikrotik has RB4011iGS+RM (no wifi, this is what I have) and RB4011iGS+5HacQ2HnD-IN (with wifi). That's quite a mouthful though :)

Well ill take a risk :) just sent a request about sfp module SFP GPON STICK LEOX LXT-010S-H price and see what comes back;) if i decide to buy it I'll let you know how it works. I just found a video where Lad clearly explains how to do it in Poland. You've got it right with the router my is RB4011 wifi.

This is the module I use, works well and doesn't have the issue on Mikrotik devices (entering fault state) which the FS one does

the cost of the module is: $59,60 - 235,42 zł netto/1pcs = 47gbp + shipping. They have them in stock so I decided to order one during my holiday in the couple of weeks.
