Oh my god. Zen internet.

I just placed an order for Business FTTP with Zen, over the phone.

It was an absolute dream. I can't believe how brief and straightforward it was. Even the contract terms PDF is brief simple and clear. I needed to call back to change the D/D details to a different account - took 2 minutes including switchboard.

See my TalkTalk Business rants here for a stark contrast: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/threads/wtf-is-wrong-at-ttb-network-admin.42150/#post-374169

Yes this was just order placing, but it was relaxing and straightforward.

It sounds like they've perhaps improved then because when I tried to order Cityfibre FTTP through Zen they were absolutely impossible to deal with. They refused to believe they offered symmetric connections (even when I pointed them to their own press release announcing it) and wouldn't tell me the prices or speeds, their site had the Openreach speeds not the Cityfibre ones. After a week of back and forth and getting absolutely nowhere with them I gave up because I thought if they're this obstinate to deal with pre-sale, it didn't give me much hope for their support.

That's a shame you didn't get anywhere with them. When I spoke to them about CityFibre and mentioned the uploads speed being shown as a tenth of all other providers they did know what I was talking about and said that on their site they had to show the average speed for all their connections i.e. openreach and cityfibre.

One of my neighbours went with them, and you do indeed got the full 900Mb upload.

Everything went well. This was at a nursery / day care centre. Openreach did the install with no hassle. Comms from Zen were good (emails with required details, BB username/password etc.).

Those Fritz!box routers are really very good.. first time I've used one. I put a Mikrotik in but was impressed with the Fritz!box and had a good dig around its options and features. It wouldn't let me look at Wireguard without first creating a My Fritz account to get a dyndns record, which seemed odd considering I had a static IP and proper DNS in place already, so I didn't get to look any further at that. They are clearly geared up for home users but seem pretty advanced and have a well built front-end / web gui.

Service appears to work as expected. 500 down 70 up, static IP included, PPPoE. The nursery had been suffering with ~23 down / 4 up on VDSL.

Zen choosing not to offer business services over CityFibre infrastructure baffles me a bit, especially when you see their CEO do interviews with all the different altnets and seemingly sign deals with a decent number of them. Their loss I suppose.
