Oleloa.gen Virus

I am having major problems with a virus, i am running NOD32 and everytime i open any number of programs like Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, infact just about any application, NOD pops up with saying i have the Oleloa.gen virus, and no matter how many times i hit delete or clean it still appears when i open another program again. NOD32 even gives me that warning when i open the Add/Remove Programs section from control panel

i have tried numerous spyware packages like spybot and adaware but to no avail

any help appreciated

Cheers

Andy

Assuming it's not a false positive you could always try some other anti-virus software. I used to use AVG but found it didn't detect some viruses on a machine I was looking at; so I switched to Avast which did the job. There may also be online scanners available to confirm the threat is real. I can't seem to find out much about Oleloa.gen other than it seems to be a "low" threat trojan ... :hrmph:

McAffee shows it as removable back as far as January, Perhaps there is a problem with NOD, try uninstall/re-installing it, running the update and trying again, if not you need a different AV program; although NOD claims to remove it.

Could try Mcaffee's DOS on demand scanner for free:-

Go to ftp://ftp.nai.com/CommonUpdater/

and download the newest SDAT????.exe file

To extract it (to a folder called Mcaffee), from Command line run
"SDAT????.exe /E Mcaffee"

Scan /? for switches

I would also recommend Avast, especially if you are running Windows XP as upon installation it asks if you would like to perform a boot time scan, in other words, it will re-boot the computer & just before XP fully loads it thouroughly scans your hard drive & catches any viruses.

I think you need to switch off the system restore feature first, sounds like you're system might be restoring the virus on start-up. When restore is disabled, re-boot into safe mode and then run the virus scan - then reboot as normal and re-enable system restore.

Hopefully that will solve it.

If it were system resore then surely this would happen for most viri???
I had this problem once myself with Norton and it was because of a corrupted update; un/re-installing cleared it.

You might be right - but as he can't get rid of it, it's a possibility that it could be sitting in system restore.

Anyway, the method I suggested is worth trying.

right i've sorted it

i downloaded Avast and told it to scan after a restart, the infected file seemed to be wininet.dll which when prompted by Avast i deleted, bit of a mistake as windows wouldent restart due to the missing file, so i booted into dos and pulled the file of my XP CD

all works perfecty now, im going to stick with that Avast and remove NOD32, thanks for the recommendation and help guys, appreciate it :)

cheers
