I don't cover every single SpaceX or OneWeb launch in the main news as it can get repetitive and doesn't add much, but here's the latest announcement today from OneWeb on their next LEO launch:

OneWeb, the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) global satellite communications company, confirms plans to launch a further 36 satellites into Low Earth Orbit on 26th April as part of its sixth launch. The launch will be conducted by Arianespace from the Vostochny Cosmodrome.

Lift-off will take place on 25th April at 23:14 BST, 26th April at 7:14 Local Time, Vostochny and the mission to insert the satellites into initial orbit - prior to raising to operational orbit is expected to last approximately four hours.

The planned launch will bring OneWeb’s total in-orbit constellation to 182 satellites, and is the third launch in OneWeb’s ‘Five to 50’ programme, to deliver its connectivity solution to reach regions north of 50 degrees latitude by June 2021.

OneWeb’s ‘Five to 50’ programme aims to connect broadband data users in the northern hemisphere, with services covering the United Kingdom, Alaska, Northern Europe, Greenland, Iceland, the Artic Seas and Canada. Service will be ready to start by the end of year, with global service available in 2022.

OneWeb also continues to grow rapidly as it sees increasing demand across its customer base. The company has recently announced distribution signings across multiple industries with The AST Group, PDI, among others, and more signings to be announced in the coming weeks as OneWeb expands its global capabilities. OneWeb also agreed its latest MoU with the Government of Kazakhstan this month as it continues to demonstrate the company’s commercial viability and the confidence customers have in its services and offering.

In March 2021, OneWeb conducted its first network demonstrations to the U.S. Government and will be rolling out additional demonstration kits and Service Demo-centres in locations such as: Westcott 5G Centre, U.K., Talkeetna, Alaska, in the Washington D.C. area and more.

To follow the launch live online, please tune in at 23:00 BST / 6:00pm EST and visit www.oneweb.net or the OneWeb YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/OneWebofficial/ or OneWeb Facebook channel at https://www.facebook.com/onewebofficial

Now the announcement for 36 more satellites, which are due to launch tomorrow (27th May).

What:

OneWeb, the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications company, will launch 36 satellites on Thursday, 27 May 2021, to bring the company a step closer to completing its ‘Five to 50’ ambition and starting commercial service by the end of the year.

The satellites are manufactured by OneWeb Satellites, a joint venture between OneWeb and Airbus Defence and Space based in Space Coast, Florida. The venture developed a production line process for manufacturing the satellites that dramatically lowers costs and also significantly accelerates output. With two production lines in its Florida factory, each line can build one satellite in a single eight-hour shift, allowing OneWeb Satellites to produce satellites at a scale that will enable OneWeb to rapidly build out its full constellation. OneWeb Satellites employs more than 180 people in Florida and is on track to have a headcount of 200 at the Merritt Island facility on the Space Coast by the end of the year.

Why:

This latest launch will add 36 satellites to OneWeb’s constellation, as it works to complete its 648 LEO satellite fleet that will deliver high-speed, low-latency global connectivity. This launch represents 80 percent of the constellation required to enable its connectivity solution to reach all regions north of 50 degrees latitude by June 2021.

This will be the fourth in a five-launch programme to fulfil the ‘Five to 50’ service, enabling OneWeb to offer connectivity across the United Kingdom, Alaska, Northern Europe, Greenland, Iceland, the Arctic Seas and Canada. This service is expected to be switched on before the end of the year and OneWeb intends to make global service available in 2022.

When:

Lift-off is scheduled to take place on 27 May at 18:43 BST/1:43 ET/17:43 UTC.

Where:

The launch will take place from the Vostochny Cosmodrome and will be conducted by Arianespace.

Just incase you want to watch if you have nothing better to do. :giggle:

That's enough for their beta service to launch in a few months.

Yes, I wonder what their equipment will look like compared to Dishy McFlatface. :)

At present they seem unlikely to offer a direct end-user terminal for homes, as the model they've built seems to be focused more on providing capacity for a distribution platform (e.g. backhaul for FTTC/P or fixed wireless/Wi-Fi). But we'll have to see how this works out, particularly in light of the BT deal and the possibility of Eutelsat selling packages to complement KONNECT.
