Online gaming / ping

Found Ghost also, they are supplied by STRUCTURED COMMUNICATIONS.
I see something interesting with their network. They are having big spikes after midnight few times a week. But other then that they are aveg. 26.82 ms and 0.07% packet loss.

That's fantastic data iwe, I'm not sure it makes the choice any easier, AA would be my choice if they didn't have data caps and were sensibly priced. Vodafone looks interesting but there's so many bad reviews which puts me off. Zen looks reasonable although I'm not sure about the packet loss, possibly not a big deal for less data assuming these links are being pushed. Your data does rule out Sky and many others in my opinion with the latency and packet loss

It was interesting, I couldn't find the right ASN for Aquiss, found one with 512 IPs to look into it, but no data coming from there.
Zen is in pole position for me, Ghost is expensive compared with others, but good performer. I am also interested in trying out Virgin when I move next month. My current location is great on Virgin.

never been a great fan of virgin, that said lve never been in an area where its own cables were, but from my limited experience (which admittedly is a while ago now) their traffic shaping was annoying, always so slow at peak times.

Anyone got any thoughts or comparisons for idNet, if I'm to believe the marketing hype their 'gamer' sounds fantastic, especially "Your data will be given priority at the exchange " - is that even possible over a BT backhaul connection ?

Data from the company I work at, sampling from yesterdya 11am until today 11am. 24h average, country wide.
Latency & Packetloss.
Sample size... is big. Eg. BT peak times reach 76 Gbps, Virgin 110 Gbps, etc. This is all consumer level data.
Based in London.

I feel like for KCOM this isn't accurate going forward. It's based on users of the ADSL2 packages which are no longer available. Their FTTP service is excellent and offers pings of only a few ms.

maddenlol just wondering how you're getting on with your ping levels into GGB - any good news / progress ?

i had an dlm reset interleaving is still showing as enabled. ggb still looking in it no updates yet , got an update now ,
I have checked the profile and the reset did not take affect as DLM is still showing the profile as of the 8th Jan.

Its likely a scenario still exists where DLM feels the need to keep interleaving enabled at this time.

We have seen this before and its unfortunately a waiting game to see if this is removed from the line.

Keep the line in sync and i will check this Monday when the office re opens.

maddenlol so your ping is still at 21 ms to reach GGB ? interleave took about 2 days to be removed from my line but perhaps this might vary depending on what the DLM thinks about your line quality. I guess your router isn't showing the stats for the interleave depth ? fortunately with my router I can see what's happening with interleaving.
As GGB said don't reboot or power cycle your router as this will effect what the DLM does i.e. if the DSLAM loses sync from you rebooting your router it'll likely think your connection is unstable and likely keep interleaving at the same level.

I'm getting curious about how an ISP performs when connecting outside of the UK, it would be useful for comparison if someone would post the output from the two commands below - run in a DOS command window. One is a US server and the other is a Spanish server.

Thanks bukem909 and ManOfMeans, this is confirming mostly what I've seen so far, it's the latency into the core network that's key. It's the same result I've seen where if you're located close to London you get really low latency almost regardless of what ISP you use.
I have noticed with Virgin which I have at my workplace the peering latency isn't that good, my current FTTC connection either equals Virgin or beats Virgin ping wise to many locations sometimes by a fair amount.

So if I take the ping from bukem909 and add the difference into the core network which is roughly 8ms I end up with the ping results I'm seeing. Obviously I was hoping to see a lower peering latency from some ISP that would offset a higher ping to reach the core network.

Here's an example from my testing.

Home connection FTTC

Virgin 200Mbps connection, 6ms to reach the VM core network as you'd expect from a full fibre connection.

I couldn't find the right ASN for Aquiss, found one with 512 IPs to look into it, but no data coming from there.

Fair as im aware Aquiss uses entanet wholesale on AS8468 and its one of the providers that have IX in cardiff and scotland - I know Zen route there traffic to Manchester if the user is closer to that IX.

The only thing I know is that many IP trackers and Speedtest seem to think I am in London; often Hammersmith.

Martin is one of a set of clones, all called Martin; the entire company consists entirely of Martin, Martin, Martin, and Martin; although occasionally I have spoken to Martinique, the part time company secretary (who I suspect is just another Martin wearing a dress).🤭
