Online gaming using a capped ISP?

Does anyone have an advice on whether or not using a capped ISP will effect online gaming. Obviously it depends how long you play for but as an example, how much data would be generally downloaded from playing for say, 1 hour?
I'm researching moving from dial-up to broadband but don't want to spend more than about £18/mnth. Can anyone suggest any good ISP's?

Thanks.

It really depends on what games you are playing.
Some transfer more info than others.

Some games merely need better ping times that bandwidth.

Hi,

I'm on a 3MB / month capped broadband with Plusnet and I'm a fairly regular online gamer, usually with the Halflife / Halflife 2 based games like Day of Defeat and other instant gratification first person shooters.

In my opinion, playing that sort of game, the amount of data useage cap you would get in a £18/month contract and playing for an hour or two a day, you would not have anything to worry about.

In my opinion you will be more concerned with how much or your data cap is being eaten up with all the other downloads (and game update patches) surfing, internet voice chat and stuff that you will discover when you do get BB.

If you are going for a capped service, try to get one where you can alter the cap limit easily (most should allow this, mine does, in fact if I was to go over the limit I would just get charged for another 1GB) as you adjust to your new surfing / gaming habits.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I mostly play online games like World of Warcraft but do a bit of surfing too. I'm just not sure whether to go with an uncapped or capped service. Obviously my main concern is money and don't want to pay tons for broadband. I use the internet a lot at work so most of my surfing/downloading is done there.

If you want a connection for online games i would suggest going unlimited the cheapest unlimited plan would be about 512k speed tho. Im With tesco 3gb cap 1mb broadband and i havent ran out once yet and i do alot of gaming :)
