Openreach FTTP rollout skipped my address - Need help in understanding their reasoning.

It's the Openreach network planners' jobs to make those design decisions. I don't think they will appreciate outsiders volunteering their own suggestions, and I don't think it will get you served any more quickly.

I've contacted Openreach by emailing the CEO and spoke to someone within the complaints team. I have asked whether surveys of the underground distribution point have been conducted and if FTTP can be deployed without additional engineering work due to congested ducts. They will speak to the PM in charge of FTTP deployments in my area to confirm this.

If the ducts are not congested, They will see if I can I'll be added to the build plan. If not and the underground distribution point is indeed congested, it will be a longer wait due to cost/engineering requirements.

To answer the question raised by @candlerb on what I want from Openreach, I want them to look to see whether my address can be added to the build plan or whether I can be added under the Openreach sweeper program. I am not special, deploying FTTP through the UK is a monumental task. Sometimes addresses are missed due to cost and build complexity, but I do not see any harm in asking as things change all the time.
 
Don't think what they come back with is set in stone. I was "In Plan" then I wasn't, I did the email the CEO routine, it was looked at and I got a date for when work would start. That came and went, queried it and back to not "In Plan". Allegedly the money was diverted from this road (all DIG served) to install in easier to do places. They were very apologetic though !!! That was a couple of years back now - still not "In Plan".
 
Interesting to see which way this goes. Looks as though they've already set precedents in a few different directions from adjusting plans to informing plans adjusted then when they hit reality on the ground their returning to as before.

You seem to have adopted a sensible and grounded approach to this, which mirrors my own experiences.

That said I would encourage you to be philosophical about any responses.

If my time on here has taught me anything it's that everyone's rollout is different and Openreach works in some weird and wonderful ways.

As much as it pained me I stopped caring so much and figured they'd get our rollout sorted one day (which they did albeit years later)

I had a similar experience with the local altnet. FibreNation showed up in early 2020 just after the start of lockdown and dug the street, quickly followed by letters in the post saying "TalkTalk UFO is now available, order now" which I did, as I'd suddenly ended up working from home. I picked an installation date which came and went with nothing happening, and TalkTalk had no idea why, eventually just deleting my account on their systems (I couldn't log in one day).

There was absolute silence for a year or so, then CityFibre started putting stuff in the post saying "CityFibre is coming soon, don't sign up for a long contract". Two years(!) after that stuff started coming through, I was finally available to order, a fact I was alerted to not by CityFibre but by my copper ISP, Zen. I wonder if anyone else has had a longer break between fibre going in and RFS.
 
I am still convinced that they only bothered to build my street because nexfibre did, therefore I am forever grateful to them for that.

A couple of days after that, the Openreach CEO Complaints team advised via email that:

"I can confirm that the engineers have identified an overhead solution to provide your premise with full fibre.

We’re now at the final stage which is the commissioning & audit – this essentially ensures that our records are updated to reflect your address as full fibre available, this can take 1-2 weeks."


One brilliant result, just from asking and not saying that Openreach know best 😁

The million-pound question is how on earth do I leave my current Virgin Media contract when I still have 9 months left?

I think EE is giving some people 300 quid to leave their contracts early so probably would go that route

It's pretty much the same in Winchester. I think the only reason Openreach have added us to their build plans is because Giganet/APFN are building here.

Whether they will actually cover us or not remains to be seen. We have been excluded by Giganet so there is nothing but FTTC for at least another year for us.
 
Openreach has updated my address and FTTP is now available to order. Other than EE are there any other providers offering cash for leaving their existing contracts?
