Order of events before an FTTP telegraph pole is live

Hi everyone,

As always, this site is a wealth of information, so thank you to everyone who contributes.

I have searched around previous threads and I think the answer to my question is 'it depends' but I'm wondering if anyone knows what definitive steps are required before an FTTP telegraph pole goes 'live'.

The telegraph pole that serves my house was replaced in August 2023 and several CBT units were installed on it at the same time (from what I can see, 2x12 units and 1x4 unit). I have been keeping an eye on BT's wholesale checker, and also on bidb.uk. bidb.uk told me that Openreach works were planned on said pole last week and sure enough, the Openreach contractor (Kier, I think) were digging a hole at the base of the pole and there were signs up saying 'Full fibre internet installation works'.

So, with CBTs on the pole and work obviously having taken place at the base of the pole (presumably to actually hook in the fibre connection?), what else needs to happen? Presumably, the answer is any number of things between the exchange and the pole??!! I'll keep checking the wholesale checker, but just wondered if anyone knew anything definitive.

Thank you in advance!

Adam

The answer is still "it depends". Normally the build is top to bottom, fibre comes from the trunk, gets ducted to poles, roll is left in pole and then CBTs get installed. As your pole had to be replaced things may have happened out of order. There is little point in speculating. Keep checking on the BT's wholesale checker for when you can order the service. If you really want to know ASAP then script the checks and do it every hour.
