PAYG SIM with good per-MB rate

Well actually in the same location in the house in question EE gets tound 4-5 down while Rodafone can get 15. But speed isn't really required here and so I think EE and vodafone might both be workable options.
Yeah, might be out of range of B3, seems like the kind of speeds you'd get on B20 only.

None of the networks really offer a good PAYG service anymore, shame Tesco isn't cheap since their PAYG is pretty decent if you want a number and don't want to worry about topping up.

I don't think Lebara offers any classic PAYG, Talkmobile probably doesn't either, ASDA does (but idk of the prices) and Vodafone itself does but it's probably a bit too expensive.

Might just be worth forking £2.90 for a Pay Monthly Spusu SIM tbh and just hope you get VoLTE (1GB data and unlimited calls+texts).
Well the one slight issue I can see is the reported 20p/min charge for calling a spusu number. Maybe I'll just port in a number from a free PAYG Sim to get around that. We'll also need to receive WhatsApp OTP on this so I hopeSpusu will work with that now

Yes, PAYG without the worry of a regular top-up would definitely be preferred.

Also, can you just re-install Firsty and get another 100 MB with a new account on a new Email address but same device? Or is it really one 100 MB free package per IMEI (device)? Just thinking about whether I should use the 100 MB for speedtests and therefore get through it incredibly quickly or try and save it
When I deleted my RedBull Mobile account that's linked to my Google account, it let me resign up for another free gigabyte on the same device. I think it's the same with Firsty.

1p yearly? For occasional maps use/basic browsing 1GB a month might be enough. Downloading local maps to the phone would also use less.

After a year, I think the minimum top-up rules apply

Ah yeah doesn't look like it auto-renews unfortunately
I just looked at it, wasn't it £36 before? At £60, just go somewhere else

My original VM plan was technically £60/year when I first signed up and I had more data... not worth it.

Lebara and Spusu should have some offers that can beat that nicely

Was £36 for the 250MB option, now £40 for 500MB or £60 for 1GB

We have three phones on RWG. Credit never expires. If you don't buy a bundle it works as pure PAYG which is 5p/min, 5p/SMS, 1p/MB. Until the end of July they're doing double-credit: 2.5p/min, 2.5p/SMS, 0.5p/MB

I also do much the same thing - everyday RWG dumb phone for calls/SMS and I have a smart phone for maps/bus times/email. The smart phone is on iD Mobile PAYG which is 1P/MB. Credit expires after a year. I spend £5pa. Typically use 20MB of data on a trip.

Try these ones. I think they're still available but just hidden from the website. The £48 one is better as it's unlimited calls and texts and 500MB data - a fixed package Vs the £40 PAYG where you could run through your balance if you used too much data.

If not, consider maybe Lebara's MSE deals where it's £1 for 6 months or something like that. They use the Vodafone network so you'd have to see if they're any good.

Depending on OP’s needs there’s CMLink’s annual offer too that I just thought of. £18 for the year with 12GB of data. But you only get 200 mins and 200 texts so would have to be quite light on the calls and texts too - Maybe they would be though if we were looking at plans where you pay by the minute anyways.
Considering the phone is intended for data usage anyways, £1.50/month is pretty decent.

I don't personally ever use 200mins myself, usually not even 1 😂.

Both of them are visible on the IoT page

£4 still seems high for 500MB tbh. OP states only network that they haven't tested was O2, area seems to be B20 only on O2, Vodafone and Three and based off the information, there's probably no point to try O2 (EE is B3+20 but it looks like they're only able to pick up B20). Area is an O2 host though

Yes that offer looks pretty good (could you provide a direct link to it please?).

Out of interest if you do use 200 minutes are you just cut off or will it charge for extra minutes used?

Also I just hope CMLink isn't as dodgy as Lyca (I had a SIM with them last summer and it was a terrible experience ending with attempted bank fraud a month or so ago likely because the card details were leaked).

Also, after 1 year will it just renew or do you have to order another SIM or renew manually to keep it going?

And one more question (sorry for so many) is CMLink on the EE core network and is IPV6 supported (don't really need it in this instance but just curious).

If he needs strictly O2 then go on Uswitch and get an O2 direct deal. A SIMO contract will probably be the cheapest way.

If not, Tesco do a £5 Rocket Pack (PAYG Bundle) that gives 500MB data, 250 mins and 250 texts. It's something like that. They don't advertise it but it is possible to purchase it as normal. The only catch is that minimum top-up is £10.

I don't think there's any other cheaper way to go with O2 PAYG and get data.

Yes this offer looks pretty good. I'm just curious whether extra minutes could be used at a cost or whether it would just blockkk any calls after200minutesnhadnbeenn n

CMLink is a partner brand of EE so it’s all on their core just like 1P Mobile is yes.

After 1 year it will revert to basic pay as you go unless you buy another monthly or annual bundle.

If you use up all 200 minutes you top up and pay pay as you go rates, or buy another bundle. You can buy a second annual bundle if needed at any time too and can run them concurrently.

CM don’t seem dodgy to me and I’ve been with them for a while. Their customer service is miles better than Lyca too. Only thing is sometimes with CM you have to email customer service to opt in to VoLTE.

No direct link. But go to the CM website then look at the monthly bundles. Then click on the top “one-off bundles” and the annual package will be there for £18.

Thank you for all the details this looks like a good option.
