People Liking Talktalk Now ???

Just joined Talktalk and finding it great!!

For £16 a month I get FREE broadband, FREE evening calls and no line-rental to BT.

Ok customer support is poor, but for the price who can beat it?

What's everyone's opinion on Talk Talk ??

Shouldn't you have asked BEFORE joining???

Most people will tell you to steer well clear; general opinion ( if you read the forums) is that they have good days, but bad months.
Customer support is awful, as is that of most of the big players; just wait until you have an unusual fault and see how many weeks it takes to get them to look at it.
Suspiciously, most people who join come on here saying they are having great download speeds; then a few weeks later they are back complaining about how slow the downloads and browsing speeds have gotten; special fast server for new customers only???
Just my opinion, enjoy it while you can.

After much research I joined Vispa; a lot more expensive (£29.99) for 300 mins talktime, 8 meg BB, no port throttling, 50 Gig limit, and line rental, and a UK support team who are happy for you to know their names and will stay behind at work to help you sort your problems AND badger BT when there is a fault on the line and BT haven't fixed it or are dragging their feet.

Yes, I should have asked first, but just wanted to know what other people thought of them.

I suppose if the broadband is FREE you cannot really complain of SLOW speeds.
I'm paying the same amount for landline as BT but getting broadband for nothing and FREE evening calls.

I don't download much, but mainly use the internet for browsing/email ect, so I might just be ok.

Lets just hope I don't get a technical fault. ;)

Talk Talk is my telephone provider and I could get free broadband if I wanted too, but because I value a stable connection with a generous monthly limit, I choose to pay extra for my internet.

i'd rather pay a couple of quid for a connection thats quick, stable and some sort of customer support. I wouldn't touch TT.

It is only "FREE" if you stay with them for the full length of the (18 month??) contract; otherwise they will make you pay through the nose to get out AND bill you for the remainder of the contract.

Obviously I realise it's not totally FREE. You have to pay a connection fee and if you break the contract you will be charged an 'exit fee' but don't most ISP's?

What i'm saying is once you've paid the connection fee it's free until after the 18 month contract.

My connection so far is stable and not once have I been disconnected. I just hope it remains the same.. If it does at least I will have learned my lesson and will choose someone else in the future ;)

I read a thread somewhere a while ago that said if you have both phone and broadband from Talk Talk, it means you cannot change to another broadband provider in the future because TT have completely unbundled your line.

If that's true it's a hell of a price to pay for "free" broadband.

I would guess from the date on the first posting ..... 3 days??

So the $hit should hit the fan in about another 4 days :D

Yeah, BT will make you pay through the nose to unbundle you and then you have the pleasure of paying AGAIN to get ADSL enabled and signed up with someone else.

Does anyone remember my postings about my sisters problems with Orange ???
If you recall her problems started about the same time as mine, back at Easter, mine were sorted out several times but not finally solved until BT were forced to fit a new cable to my house after nearly 2 months of trouble; my sister on the other hand has been PROMISED that the FAULT RESOLUTION TEAM will call her Tuesday.
For those of you who can't add up, thats 6 MONTHS and they have just decided to talk to her about the problem.
They have given every excuse in the book, and invented several new ones to avoid admitting there was a problem with their line equipment, but we have tried FOUR DIFFERENT MODEMS AND ROUTERS, THREE DIFFERENT COMPUTERS, and TWO DIFFERENT OPERATING SYSTEMS, as well as all the usual, unplug everything, use the master socket, taken the cover off and use the test socket; the problems only started when they unbundled her line ( without her knowledge or permission); so it is fairly obvious that the unbundle was botched, but will they ever admit it??????

Ok, I think there is a lot of scare mongering going on here! ;)

My brother has been with Talk talk for over a year now and still gets full speed!

When his line went llu his speed went from 2 megs - 8 megs as he lives near the exchange. He didn't after 10 days drop to 0.5 megs.. :)

Yes, I agree with the line being unbundled moving may be more difficult, but i'm sure as most companies charge £30 to connect, they would no doubt not charge any more to get your business.

Instead of being negative, i'm hoping you are all wrong and will remain on getting a steady 2 - 3 megs for FREE.

You have escaped :crap:Fast4:crap: so that's go to be a BIG, BIG :DPOSITIVE:D, good luck I hope it all works out well for you.

Zag?? wrong thread I think.

I really really hope you have a good time with Talk Talk, many people do, but many more do not, and the lack of support is critical when something goes wrong.
As for the unbundling fee, it is a lot more than £30, and that leaves you with a "normal" line that then has to be ADSL enabled by BT wholesale; there are companies who will do it for no extra charge, but you will again have to sign up for a year or more, or , you can pay it yourself and have the freedom to join an ISP that does not tie you into a contract longer than a month or 3.
It also means you will be without BB for possibly weeks while they sort it.

Yeah, cheers guys! I hope i'm one of the lucky ones that nothing goes wrong and I have a great service.

When I was with Fast4, I encounted many-a-problem so fingers crossed Talk Talk will be better.

Well i'm at day 5 so maybe in my speed will drop to 0.5 megs anytime. :)

I shouldn't really tempt fate should I ?? lol

Here's something you can try:

Go to http://www.speedtest.net/ and run a speedtest as normal.

When it has finished click "my summary" (top middle). You should then see some statistics. What does it say for "Your ISP Avg (United Kingdon)"?

As you can see my own (soon to be ex) ISP, AOL, doesn't seem to perform too well.

2016kbps, pretty awful... :crap:

It would be handy if we could put together a small database of these averages for all UK ISPs...

That's because AOL have (or had) a LOT of customers on fixed 1mbps AOL Silver packages.

AOL haven't actually sold a 1mb package since February, but granted, the number of people on less than 8mb and the fact that they have only just upgraded 1mb customers to 2mb will knock their average down a bit.

Their speed throttling policy will probably lower their average quite a bit too.

My elderly next door neighbor has unfortunately signed up with talktalk for broadband and phone, with the result that he and his wife have been without broadband or a phone line connection for the last week. When he visited the local car phone warehouse shop in the town to complain about it ,they blamed BT and told him that BT were "digging up copper cables" at the exchange and thats what the problem is and they dont know when it will be fixed as its down to BT.....ERRMM right.Im afraid my neighbors have been duped and they will be paying through the nose for a non existent service. Its not scare mongering but reality. If you havent had any slow speeds or problems yet then id go buy a few lottry tickets as you must be a very lucky person ;)

I've been with Talk Talk for just over a week now, and so far so good. I get a steady 2.5megs that hasn't changed from day one. My brother who has been with them for over a year also never encounted mystery speed drops??

Talk Talk did on day one wire my phone line incorrect on the 'Go Live' date and resulted in a dead line for hours. After I contacted them at work, it was rectified the following morning, so I honestly cannot knock them.. would BT have been as quick?

As I state, I don't know long term, how good the company is, but so far i'm gettting a very stable 2.5meg FREE broadband connection, Free Calls, No BT line rental, all for £16 per month.. wicked!

I cannot believe how negative people are about things ? No wonder the world is a miserable place to live in. ;)

Don't get too comfortable yet...

i too thought talktalk was the best thing ever for the first 3 months. no problems whatsoever. it was after this time that the nightmare began. The speeds are very poor. at time i was recieving dial up speed!! i checked this out on www.speedtest.net. I did this for a week and gave the results to Talktalk. the were apparently working on the problem but its still benn the same 4 weeks on. if you can i recommend you get out before its too late...
