Phone after FTTP

Apologies if this is a dumb question but here goes .
I am soon to get FTTP and will receive a new phone number in the process(no problem for me)
I want to get a router with DECT capability (again researched that) but I am unclear if the new number comes down the fibre line and so can just use router as base station or will it continue using copper line I already have so connection would be:-
Incoming phone line to router then router as base station or simply incoming FTTP to router as base station?
thanks
Phil

Many thanks for replying. I understand that I could have retained my number but after an epic battle concerning wrong address/corrupt database etc. a new one was the easiest and I don't mind .
My current older DECT phone has its own base station and I want to eliminate that by using a new DECT enabled router.
Was simply wondering how the new number "gets to" the router via FTTP line or not
.
Thanks

Might help to know which package and ISP you ordered from?

Assuming it's Openreach then you could conceivably have an FTTP + VoIP (FVA), FTTP Only or FTTP + Copper Line Phone (transition product) plan. So it's a bit tricky to answer.

If it's the FTTP + Copper line then your existing setup will be no different, if it's VoIP or just FTTP then you might want to get a router with a built-in ATA adapter (basically gives you a phone port on the back) so you can connect your old DECT station but use VoIP for the calls.

Funnily enough I just wrote a detail article on some of this:
