pipex and their lies

Hi first post here, I made a huge mistake in leaving bt to go to pipex, i was on a 2 mb line with them and was d/l from p2p networking at 235 kbps, When i enquired on the phone to an agent of pipex i was told i would have a 28 day cancellation period if i was not happy, so i told them to go ahead with the 8mb service, i was told i would receive my welcome pack withing 10 days, nearly 2 and a half weeks passed and i heard nothing, i phoned up to ask and there was no record of me ordering on their files, i even gave my direct debit details over to them, so i started from scratch again, a week later i received a letter from them with my user name and password, i had asked was their a fair use policy and was told no, so now my d/ls are hitting speeds of 20kbps on a 7mb line? i wasnt told they throttle p2p! so i have had this for 4 days now, even my online gameing seems to lag because of this, i phoned to cancel and was told i cant, they say its from when you made the phone call to order, they kept me waiting for weeks but untill i got it?, this is not right either, they say i signed an aggreement, i signed nothing in fact, they were raising their voice on the phone as was i, surely i am in my right to cancel at this early in time, can anyone tell me where i stand on this matter, if not i sent them an e-mail threating them with legal action or taken this up with bbcs watchdog

pipex "unlimited"

I have to empathise with you:

basically I have a 2mb unlimited deal with homecall pipex. I have found that performance is usually pathetic with downloads foten confined to 3k or thereabouts. Having spent a lot of time checking out all options BT line, router modem configs, firewallls, etc etc I discovered that Pipex Homecall is in the habit of 'grouping' users who download more than about 500mb per week into a 'heavy user' block, - which effectively limits performance to the odd trickle and frequently reduces internet access to below the old 28k modem mark.

What a scam. they have effectively oversold their capacity. I phoned them up and told them I felt like I'd beeen sold a car...and then the garage had turned up in the middle of the night and swiped the engine back.

Pipex Homecall are a greedy get rich quick company with absolutely no concern for customeres once signed up. I am moving account. if they intend to male a contract cancellation charge I will react by publicising their policy very energetically. and I hope you do too.

barndog

Yeah i know what you mean Magic Matt, i am totally disgusted at this company, they tell me i am in a stability period and on the 24th my speeds will rise (********) they must think i came up the river in a soapy bubble, i am not letting this drop, not by any means....good luck

I'm with Pipex and have no complaints with them, I'm aware that some people do have problems though but that is the same with all ISPs. barndog, when your stability period ends you will get better speeds if my experience is anything to go by and this period is a result of the technology provided by BT and not Pipex.

Been near a week now and still no change in speeds, i cant see it suddenly shoot up the way its meant to be, their own customer advisor even told me they do restrict p2p d/l to 20-25k, so im not going to get much more than that, also when i encode a movie, i cant surf the net without slow delays in changing pages, so much for a 7mb line? even my online gaming dosent run as smooth as when i was with bt, the likes of bf2 or bf2142 has a slight lag but noticeable, all in all i rate pipex and their customer support 1/10, buts thats my views
