Pipex-Glad to be shot of them

Was with this company for 5 years, would say two of these years was pretty good, when unlimited was unlimited, then it just went downhill from there, I would be classed as a heavy user, as I was informed by Pipex, and I would probably agree with that, I asked what would be required to limit my usage so as not to affect other users, they said as long as I restrict any large file downloads to off peak hours, there wouldnt be a problem! I didn't have a problem with this request and so did what they asked, next thing I get a letter saying I'm having a depremental effect on other users, hmmm! I phoned and asked how this was possible given the fact that I was downloading larger files during the night between 12am and 8am, they didnt have an answer to that one, the indian guy just said he can only go from what is written down in front of him, wonder what that was, maybe the beano or some comic book of similar content, I didnt sign the letter they wanted me to send back requiring that I adhere to there Not so Fair Usage Policy and in the process of not signing it i got another letter saying if I didn't sign the letter and restrict my already restricted downloads, my service would be suspended, that was the last straw, I phoned and asked for a MAC code, and am now in the process of migrating to a new isp, who incedently, I phoned today and asked if they would have a problem with me downloading larger files during the night between 12 and 8.
They didn't have a problem with this, I'm just really glad to be shot of this sorry excuse for an ISP, one thing I would say to anyone thats thinking about joining this ISP, stay away at all costs, just do a search on PIPEX on the forums, that should be enough to make you change your minds.

It doesn't matter if you restrict downloading to off-peak hours, the fact remains that if you download enough, you become an unprofitable subscriber, you are basically costing Pipex more than you are paying them. ISPs complain about "protecting their networks", when in fact they more concerned about protecting their profits.

It's really only the 8mb 24/7 bittorrent fan who effects the networks, the 40-60gb a month 1mb downloader doesn't really have that much of an effect, except on the ISP's profit margin...

The same goes for most ISPs, not just Pipex.

yeah! I know what your saying, and you are totally right about that one, its all greed and profit now, I was paying £33.99 for a 2 meg connection with pipex, and that was fine by me, don't get me wrong, I didn't have any connection issues, or outage problems with pipex, they were good on that score, but when I joined, it was due to them being one of the best out there, and the fact I could download what I wanted when I wanted, I think those days are well gone, like you say, its all about ISP's getting as many subscribers crammed onto there service, probably more than they can handle.
