Pipex help - want to change but unsure

hi, hope everyone is well.

i posted a while back (last year sometime) asking whether I should change from Pipex or stick with them and change from an old to a newer cheaper package. i sorted it out, the guy on the phone was helpful, i went with a 2 meg connection and 15 gig downloads limit (is it true Pipex does not really enforce this?) for just under 15 quid per month. i only remembered to ask about the new contract terms at the end of the call - he said it was a new 12 month contract and there would be a fee to leave, but i wasnt bothered at the time as i was happy with the re-grade.

now im not so sure and after reading all the pipex horror stories, im looking for advice. i looked at zen, fast, IDNet, aquiss, plusnet and bethere.co.uk. The only package i like is the PlusNet one, they have a package that looks exactly the same as my current Pipex one above. the others seem expensive for what u get - i dont care about download speed, 512kbps is fine for me, but i want around 10-15 gigs of downloads included.

can anybody offer some advice?

I think you'd be happy with any of those providers, also don't forget to check out O2 (Be), as they are one of the highest rated ISPs over independent consumer sites, alongside the likes of Zen and IDNet. However, they are also a lot cheaper (unbundled). If you’re a Sky TV subscriber then their Sky Broadband service isn’t bad either.

While I would broadly agree with Mark, just a small point re PlusNet.

PlusNet are a BT subsidiary. They are not introducing the much hated Phorm (Webwise) spyware system that BT plan to trial shortly, but some web site owners (self included) are taking a hard line and will, nonetheless, be blocking all known BT IP addresses, including PlusNet and Brightview, from their sites when the trial starts.
So, you may find that some sites you currently visit will be unavailable to you.

i am with Idnet, and have been for a while now. £25 a month, 2 gig of webspace, 30 gig download a month. reliable, fast and very friendly etc. they do not throttle or block anything. they also send an email about your usage. this can also be checked online. they have a very friendly customer forum. help is quick and free. i have used pipex, aol, virgin,bt,telewest all of which are very bad.btw it is a monthly contract. i would highly reccomend them, not sure if i spelt that right lol
i would not go for anything now that has a contract over 1 month. pipex threatened to cut my internet off, after i left them. virgin blamed me and my pc.aol said i didn't return the modem to them.bt told us the wrong length of time we had been with them. very hard to make a choice nowadays. it also seems as though these companies can do what they like. as i complained to every organisation related to ISP's, even trading standards.nothing was done of course. at least with a monthly contract you can get out quick.

If you accepted a new 12month contract then you are stuck with them until it expires, or will have to pay for it even if you switch ISP

There are lots of providers offering mid range download limits such as you are looking for, just remember that you get what you pay for, steer clear of the big boys and go for someone with a UK based tech help line and billing.

Look at the Top 10 list for recommendations, then look at each provider to see how offers the package nearest to your requirements.
