Pixel 6A & Wifi Calling - Which network?

Hey everyone,

For the last year I've been on Lebara which promised to be able to offer Wi-Fi calling, however as other threads have discussed, this has never materialized on the Pixel 6A (mine was purchased direct from Google).

Does anyone know what networks provide Wi-Fi calling that would work automatically with a Pixel 6A?

Thanks.

All the big networks support it. Your EE, o2, Vodafone and Three brands for example. But on the Three side I believe Smarty and ID support it, and on o2 Tesco and Virgin have the support as well.

Unfortunately very few of the others do though. As a general rule of thumb. Unless the other networks also sell devices including Pixels, they probably haven’t worked with Google to ensure full support for all the network features

EE support is generally very good, even on Android devices they don't sell themselves.

I'd try something like 1p mobile - you get the full EE network including 4G and wifi calling, but at a fraction of the cost. It works fine on my Pixel 7a.

Lebara has WiFi calling on my iPhone with my latest sim, but it didn’t on my previous sim with my pixel 6 pro.

Can’t work out if it was the pixel or just the older sim.

Its Pixel. Not the SIM.
Similar to iPhone Pixel phones need a carrier profile to make all the network features work correctly. While Lebara worked with Apple to release such a configuration, they haven’t done so with Google. So it’s not supported.

Wifi calling works on Voxi, Sky and O2 on my Pixel 6a. I heard that wifi calling works on 3.

Some MVNO's won't work on wifi calling even if the network supports it like Lebara, Talkmobile, Smarty etc. I can confirm that Leabra doesn't work on the 6A by default.

Hope this helps :)

Supprising it works on Sky. Google don't list them as compatible and Sky don't sell their phones.

Smarty is deffo compatible with WiFi Call and VoLTE, so is iD.

Almost - Lebara uses Vodafone's carrier profile on the iPhone.

Hence when WiFi calling first came to Lebara, the network name when on WiFi calling was 'Vodafone WiFiCall'. Vodafone have since followed in the footsteps of Three, and updated the WiFi calling network name in their carrier profile to be just 'WiFiCall', so it doesn't look odd on the MVNOs.

Does 1p mobile show EE WiFiCall on iPhones then?
I know Vodafone is WiFiCall and Three is WiFi Call in terms of network indicators (one has a space and one doesn't 😂)

For wifi calling, I have just tested a 1pmobile, 3, Lebara, and ID sim on a Pixel 6a, Poco F5, and Samsung A52s, and found that 1pmobile works on all these phones and the other sims did not work on any.

What were your exact findings? three should work with them all (expect maybe the Poco but Three still have good xiaomi support)

I'm using a 3 pay-as-one-goes. No wifi calling on any of the Android. I did not try it on my iPhone though.

I just tested the 3, ID, and Lebara sims on an iPhone 7 and the 3 and ID are able to do wifi calling but the Lebara not.

Perhaps it's down to the 7 being on iOS 15? Carrier bundles are normally tied to iOS updates (with some exceptions), so it could just be an out of date one.

Hopefully as 3g gets cut off it will force them all into all supporting wifi calling maybe ?

Just trying out a Lebara SIM in my Pixel 6a. I get WiFi calling with EE and also with Smarty but although Lebara notified me that it should work, I've not so far been able to enable it on the 6a (running Android 14). I haven't yet tried the software modifications that are mentioned here.

Lebara referred me to Vodafone's guides to enable WiFi calling, https://deviceguides.vodafone.co.uk/google/?type=all, but at the time of writing (April 2024) the Google devices list does not include the 6a.
