Pixel 7 as a USB WAN keeps disconnecting

Hello,

So I am trying to use a Pixel 7 phone as a secondary WAN with my Asus AX89X router for when I travel, so there is backup connectivity in case the main connection dies for some reason.

So I've been testing it (as a main WAN) and it's fine at first, but after 6-12 hours it gets into this disconnect loop and eventually dies and refuses to reconnect until either the phone or the router is reset. This is what the log looks like when it happens:

May 4 01:34:51 WAN Connection: WAN(0) link down.
May 4 01:35:12 WAN Connection: WAN was restored.
May 4 01:35:36 WAN Connection: WAN(0) link down.
May 4 01:35:57 WAN Connection: WAN was restored.
May 4 01:36:21 WAN Connection: WAN(0) link down.
May 4 01:36:43 WAN Connection: WAN was restored.
May 4 01:39:40 WAN Connection: WAN(0) link down.
May 4 01:40:00 WAN Connection: WAN was restored.
May 4 01:42:10 WAN Connection: WAN(0) link down.
May 4 01:42:30 WAN Connection: WAN was restored.
May 4 01:44:21 WAN Connection: WAN(0) link down.
May 4 01:44:43 WAN Connection: WAN was restored.

I'm fairy certain the issue is with the phone and not the router. I've also tested it with an Asus AX86S and I get the same result. I've also tried a Pixel 3 XL and I get similar disconnects although spaced farther apart.

I factory reset the Pixel 7 and the only settings I changed were USB Tethering as default and no screen lock, and still the same issue. I've tried both Smarty and Voxi 5G and 4G, same issue. I have good signal, so I'm sure it's not an issue with connectivity. I think it just randomly starts disconnecting the USB every few minutes until it eventually fails to connect, but I can't figure out what triggers it. Maybe I should try a Samsung phone? I really want to get to the bottom of this.

Anyone else tried to do a similar thing, did you have issues?

It might be trigged by full battery, modem overheating or even power save event
You can try changing the '' Default USB Configuration '' to USB Tethering in developer option and disable the screen lock which you already did
I used an old Sony Xperia phone for a month without a problem but the router have a USB2 port
