planning permission for a 105cm dish in uk?

Do I need planning permission for my dish?

Basically, we are buying off plan and are 1 of 20 properties being developed in a village. I was expecting Tariam to deliver a 90cm but to be honest, perhaps I wasn't paying attention.

The site manager has allowed me to install a dish on the property but its actually 105 when I measured it.

Do I need planning? I have been told not, as long as I own the property? Could the neighbours force me to pull it down in any way?

I have no experience in this?

anyone else?

Now technically speaking you can usually get away without needing planning permission if the dish is 90cm or less in size (I don't know if that rule still stands) and does not protrude above the highest part of the roof. If you stick it on a chimney stack then I think the limit is 45cm. Be aware that the rules can be stricter for a conservation area, a National park or Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

However in reality they're unlikely to spot the difference between a 90cm and 105cm dish, though as it's an off-plan development you should check with the site manager to get their thoughts. Also I seriously doubt that the local council would cause you any problems as right now they're trying to encourage uptake in remote locations, often via satellite, and not discourage it.

Local planning rules vary from authority to authority so you're better off checking with the local planning office as the fines can be quite high (as well as being forced to remove the dish). If might be you only need planning consent rather than permission.

The new Ka-Band satellite service will offer 10Mb speeds and be available on a 75cm Dish, maybe it will be worth holding out until April for this service?

Thanks

No details on usage allowances yet, although they'll definitely be two-way solutions. However the 10Mbps service price is likely to be quite steep. We should have the first solid details within the next couple of months.

In the meantime BeyonDSL does have some interesting 4Mbps deals, which can have unlimited usage bolted on top, although for Satellite data that doesn't come cheap.
