PlayStation 5 NAT Type 2

Hi all, I'm trying to get my PS5 to NAT Type 1 but I don't know how to set up the port forwarding on the router provided by Giganet. When doing a connection test I get 800-900 download but only 15-25 upload. I've set up DMZ mode for my PS5 but that hasn't help so I think maybe port forwarding won't help either but I'm at a loss for what else to try, I'm not too good with network stuff. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing you mean the NAT type from the PS5 setting menu? That's fine the PS5 will be NAT type 2, your worry would be NAT type 3.
It can only be NAT type 1 of you allow your PS5 to have a public facing IP address.

If you play games like Call of Duty - check the network settings in the game it will show you if you have Open, Moderate or strict.

For example my PS5 setting show Type 2 but CoD shows Open - therefore no issues.

So I guess this would not resolve my low upload speeds? I'm getting only 15-25 which is OK for gaming but I would like to get closer to the speeds I'm paying for. My Xbox is fine I'm getting 800-900 up and down just PS5 uploads not so great

PS5 doesn't report great upload - Maximum I've seen is around 50Mb. Changing you DNS to 1.1.1.1 usually makes a difference (Worth a try)

Xbox has Microsoft as there backbone so that's why they have a better network :)

Usually need NAT2 which is best for public and private ports.

CGNAT is fine depending on what type of game you play, PS5 games are fine because the game hosts the server and you all connect there.

Being on NAT3 would impact you hosting a PSN party, you could only connect to others on NAT3.

Nat1 is weakest, letting anything in and out.

So 2 is where the sweet spot is.

If you’re hosting a game on pc and your computer holds the server and you’re CGNAT, you might have issues, but most of the time you’re fine.

We are CGNAT with OctaPlus and not had any issues at all, was Nat 3 for a few weeks and then they launched IPV6 which put me back to NAT2.

No other issues with the broadband including working from home, streaming, web browsing and whatever else.

Been pretty great.

I don’t do online gaming so I am unfamiliar with PlayStation/xbox except that i thought they both support ipv6, and that works really well for gaming .. of course directly routed with no Nat needed.

IPv6 working great for me on giganet
