Please help! - Does this make sense to anyone?

I have two separate broadband accounts. Each on a separate BT telephone line. One of the broadband accounts is with BT Yahoo the other is with Freeserve (Wanadoo). One is my daughter's the other 's mine or business use.

They were both installed over a year ago and have both worked faultlessly since then. UNTIL:

About two weeks ago at lunch-time one day both broadband lines stopped working. On disconnecting it was impossible to re-connect. This happened at exactly the same time on both connections even though one is BT and the other is Wanadoo.

Both lines were still OK (telephony). Both modems showed two solid green lights. However neither could make a connection.

I telephoned Freeserve who said they were not aware of any problems. Wanted me to re-install my modem etc which I knew was a waste of time.

I telephoned BT Yahoo who pretty much said the same thing.

I wondered if there was a problem with the exchange so I telephoned British Telecom who said there was no problem with the exchange and the fact that my telephone worked OK and that I had solid green lights showed the digital line was fine.

I really did not know where to go from there so I knocked on a few doors locally and found that someone a few doors away had OneTel broadband and that was working OK.

By now I had run out of people to call and did not really know what to try next. Then suddenly both lines connected OK.

Things have been fine for a week or so then suddenly again today (at the same time of day mind you) exactly the same thing has happened again.

Can anyone suggest where the problem might lie:

1) With the broadband provider - but how can that be when there are two different providers - do BT Yahoo and Wanadoo share the same network?

2) With the telephony provider - but then why does the telephone work and the modems show solid green lights

3) with ?? - who else could it be -

Any help/suggestions would be most gratefully received.

Have exactly the same problem myself for the last 48 hours, solid sync on either router or USB but no connection. Cannot ping out anywehere, am trying to find out the IP addie of the first BT router down the line through a BT friend to see if I can ping that.

We have been informed by BT of problems with the Manchester ATM taking offline Broadband services in Cheshire, Staffordshire, Yorkshire, Cumbria and surrounding areas.

BT are having to fly engineers in from Canada from Marconi to help resolve this problem. Total estimated having issues is 2.5 Million across all UK ISPs.

hope that makes sense if you live in that sort of area

ive got the same problem

back on dial up for moment :(

A problem at BT's Manchester node is causing some users to experience connection problems. This includes but is not limited to the Midlands and North of the country.

Symptoms are 'timed out' connection attempts and dropping sessions.

BT have informed us that they have downsized this morning estimated 2.5 million possible downed circuits to 500,000 customers across all ISPs, generally based around the North of the country, with a few overlaps into the Midlands.

BT Incident Reference: 2949 Issue : 1
Detected Date: 12/02/2005 Detected Time: 09:10

Incident Headline: MSIP - MANCHESTER ATM NODE 5 - LOSS OF SERVICE

Incident Details: We are currently seeing alarms and receiving fault reports at MANCHESTER AREA. Engineers are investigating.

At this point we are unable to identify which End Users have been affected by this Incident. As soon as further information is available we will update you.

Progress Details: Our Engineers are making progress towards full restoration of service.

Further updates will be provided as soon as possible.

We have been informed by the BOU that a fix is still on course for 19:30.

The fault has been highlighted as being down to shelf failure within Marconi equipment which is being replaced rather than repaired. This should speed up Time to Live rather than waiting for a fix.

BTs BOU advise us that they are continuing to work with Marconi in Canada who are sending engineers to the UK to test the failed hardware, we can only presume to ensure the problem is not going to take place elsewhere.

8.50am
Repairs are still ongoing and no further details are available at present. A new estimated fix-time of 12noon is currently being advised, although as this fault has now been ongoing for 24 hours don't be suprised if it is revised again.
