Plus Net Service?

Hi Everyone :) Our local telephone is due for a broadband upgrade soon :D (About time too). We are currently on a wireless internet connection which i feel is crap so in May/June i am looking for a new ISP provider. I have used Plus.Net before in the past whilst i was studying up in london and have been tempted by them again. However, some of my friends are saying that the pipex deal is just as good at a much cheaper rate.

We will probably go for a uncapped 1 meg download with either Pipex £24 or Plus.net £29.99 but why is there such a big difference in price when they are both uncapped services  Is the service worth the extra £6 a month

Thanks

Plusnet wont be capped for much longer if i remember correctly. Plusnet offer a few nicey bits and bobns pipex either charge for or dont offer, such as a static IP address and 24x7 support.

i'll learn to spell one day, or to use the edit button.

Since when? Broadband plus (no FUP)or something is coming out on April 4th but thats gonna be using QOS Packet shaping so expect speeds to be all OVER the place during busy times :crap:

I thought the April 4th was where you brought your bandwith (starting from 14.99 for xGB) but it was unrestricted at night. Thats not unlimited.

you're thinking on a different product altogether, the premier range are changing to that

for broadband plus, a quote from the bumph for it..

Because no download limits or fair usage levels are applicable, some high bandwidth activities (such as p2p) will be speed restricted during busy times. This is great news for customers who simply surf and email, as these activities are to be given the highest priority on Broadband Plus.

So many products, so many changes even the staff have difficulty keepinp up it seems and with free speed upgrades some customers very concerned that they are paying massively for the same and this lot want money to downgrade them.

Sorry for my mistake. But yeh i agree, Plusnet and many other ISP's have so many packages avaiable due to the speed increases that its a giant mess, guess this will be sorted out over the coming months.

mmmmmmmmm pipex

So i take it i would be better off using pipex? If i was to opt for Plus net i would definately go for the premier range of unlimited downloads/no capping etc. But if they are planning to change this then i definately wont even consider them. All im after is a good reliable ISP service that do not cap our usage!

It isnt unlimited now and to be honest, I'm seriously considering either pipex or Zen myself :(

it isnt capped (thier words) but it isnt unlimited either, they start quoting the FUP if you go over say 100GB in a month hence the BBP debarcle of a couple of months back :(

Sorry a bit behind all this but what was the BBP debarcle all about? So which service should i use? I am definately starting to sway towards pipex as the price is cheaper etc

basically the so called "Unlimited" premier accounts were used by some heavy users (200 - 300GB P/M) of which they thought it was unlimited like we all did (as it was advertised as such when we signed up to this account) then at the beginning of the year, several users were dumped onto a heavily used pipe (Bad Boy Pipe or BBP as it's now known) of which thier speeds were crippled to say the least, then plusnet stated why they did it as "those users were detrimental to our capacity and have been placed on this pipe until the next billing month" half of which demanded their MAC right away as they basically didnt have a leg to stand on because of the T&C states..
"11.2(b) cause detrimental performance of the Service to you or any other Customer;
blah blah etc.. in fact they altered it so that the only people who were affected were the heavy users on this so called pipe, but almost at the same time that this happened Plusnet LTD. became Plusnet PLC.. conspiracy theorists, do your worst, lol ;) now with the advent of the CBC style of charging, the FUP is changing too hence the new style of "Premier Accounts" :crap: and this new BB+ Account of which they say is unlimited, my question is, until when? next week when they have suckered in MORE users, the service for plusnet I have no complaints, However my trust in them has went out the window, now i find out its gonna cost me MORE money to downgrade to BB+? I think not, they say "nice things are gonna happen with the premier accounts" yeah, well I wont be around to sample em, as soon as I get Regraded to 50:1 (as I paid for) and find a decent webhost, (for domain name and Email Forwarding) Im asking for my MAC too :(

I have to say using (200 - 300GB P/M) per month is extremely excessive for the average user. They are serious downloader’s who IMPO are using the internet for more than just using the webcam everyday, surfing and collecting emails. I listen to online radio for around 8 hours a day download distros, updates have two teenagers using the connections and I don't come anywhere near that amount.

I agree kits, but the fact of the matter is that they advertised "Unlimited" and the heavier users got basically punished without warning, I personally am nowhere near 200 - 300GB myself and now as a 2Mb Premier Customer I feel I'm being shafted again with this new style Premier account (costing me and others on the same account 14.99 to downgrade for what others are getting free to upgrade to) and I'm not alone either, have a look on ADSLGuide for further reading :(

Plusnet are not the same company I signed up to as it seems customer loyalty has went out the window in the name of profit :(

You are lucky in so much as they are not doing anything to you its not a hard cap. I am 2mb but have a 1gig a day limit not a month but daily and if you go iver later in the year its rumoured they will throttle us down to 56k till teh day is over.

I agree with kits also. Im a Pipex customer and i'd want someone who downloads 200gb a month booted off asap. There is downloading a lot then there is taking the ****. Maybe in the years to come 200gb will be a small amount of data to download (when Internet TV becomes the norm) but atm its a shocking amount. BAN P2P sue there asses muahahah. Sorry maybe me being a boring git but IMHO some people really do take things to far.
