Plus Not

Having told PlusNet that I wanted to migrate to another ISP on 30th August it is now 13 days later and I have no MAC key and no idea of when, or if, one will arrive, despite repeated (unanswered) emails and phone calls (up to 1 hour waiting time every day).
Today on the phone they refused to give a MAC key or let me speak to a manager or give me any contact details for a manager, despite the fact that they have already taken the cancellation fee of £47 from my account (a week ago).
They blame inability to provide a MAC key on Tiscali Wholesale which is totally unacceptable as my contract is with PlusNet alone.
Meanwhile the service from PlusNet is extremely slow (less than 1MB), erratic and unreliable with constant outages all day, every day.
I am left with a very poor internet service and no idea of when I can migrate to a better provider. Incidentally Zen is my migration of choice and despite having not yet started an account with them have happily answered all my questions promptly and efficiently.
Dealing with PlusNet is like something out of Catch 22 or 1984 except no one seems to be watching us!

The PlusNet reps visit here from time to time and are normally very helpful (could try PMing one ?)...

You might want to take a look at the post from JBailey - link which confirms the Tiscali problem.

It's no consolation I suppose but when I migrated two accounts from PlusNet (not LLU) the MACs were provided in minutes ... :hrmph:

the problem you've got is that you're on the tiscali llu - most providers won't accept mac codes from llu providers so you will need to disconnect and cease the connection, then re-apply for a new adsl connection with a new provider and you may have to pay setup fees

are the plusnet/f9 staff still allowed to post on these forums

as i know there was a big stink raised regarding them posting on other forums

Thanks for the replies.
I am hoping to migrate to Zen who have told me they do accept MAC keys from LLU's so I was hoping to save on downtime and set up fees and just transfer accross with a MAC key.
Seems Tiscali is the main cause of the problem though, despite my contract being with PlusNet.
sigh.

I assume you're talking about ADSLGuide ... unfortunately an assortment of obsessives (read stirrers) have made that forum next to useless. :hrmph:

I kow of some ISPs tha thave migrated people from LLU to BT IPstream.

as mentioned here
here

I am sure there are a few of Entanet supplied ISPs that do it and I read on hte forums that Zen have so I suggest call the ISP you want to change to and ask if they can migrate a MAC code that has LLU in it.

BT have also recently made changes which should allow more ISPs to offer reverse migrations. It's down to them to implement this.

It's partly down to a case of the ISPs training their staff into *not* thinking that just because a MAC Code starts 'L' doesn't necessarily mean it's invalid :)
