plusnet cancellation notice 30 days??

i joined plusnet broadband plus in may 2005 on monthly contract, deferred activation fee and no modem.

i am now trying to get a mac code from plusnet but have a got a message today saying that want me to pay the activation fee and a 30 day cancellation notice will start from my next bill invoice. i sent my request sometime last week and they still the took a bill only 2 days ago.

i was pretty sure it should be only 7 days to leave them and the service is no longer the same service it was when i joined over a year ago - the peaktime caps are really annoying so i want leave for sky as soon as poss. and even if it 30 days to move, why should i have to start the 30 day notice from my next billing date when i requested it before the last billing date?

anyone know if can argue with them about this notice thing?

But see my post on "Plusnet - do you use them" thread. High penalty clauses may be illegal to get out of a 12 month contract.

plusnet provided me a mac code within 5days but im still not clear how the billing will work out after i move...

but i have other problems to worry about now - have rang sky last week and today, apparently when they do a test on my line, they see some kind of dsl line check is on there and it is preventing them from placing my order. now i havent attempted to sign up with any other dsl provider so my feeling is that this has something to do with plusnet... - am i just being paranoid?

Hmm. I can get a MAC code from my modem, is this the MAC code they're talking about?

They are talking about the Migration Authorisation Code used to move from one ISP to another - I assume you're talking about the Media Access Control address. :hrmph:

from yesterday, my connection has completely disappeared - rang through to plusnet custcare and was informed that the problem was that they migrating to me to the LLU thingie. apparently this was automatically ordered for me at the end of july and the mac code that was generated for me last week will not be valid anymore.

also it looks like the LLU move has got stuck so they're going to have to try fix it or push it through today maybe and re-order a new mac code.

am just the victim of bad timing it seems...

Right, I would tell Plusnet to stuff their LLU connection, it is with Tiscali and has been unreliable for many Plusnet customers, including yourself by the look of things.

They should never be transferring you to LLU if you had a valid MAC code anyway.

There seems to be a case of total ineptitude going on with cancellations at PN at the moment, or they are desperatly trying to grab hold of as much money as possible before people leave. I notice that they have started a nice rolling renewal of business contracts, meaning they cant get out of it either.

This sort of customer grabbing has been seen before on this forum, not long before the ISP shuts down.

Not to worry Old Dude, they have come up with a new title for their Comm's Team, they are to be known as the VotC very soon, so all will be well....

No I am not joking either..oh the VotC...= Voice of the Customer, I kid you not, you couldn't invent this stuff could you....

What planet are these people on?...what pills are they taking?

just an update, it took about a week to get my internet connection back and now waiting for my new mac code.

another update - got a msg today from plusnet telling me that they won't be able to get me the mac key because the supplier is having technical difficulties generating them at the moment.

reading the "bloody plusnet..." thread, i see a period of 2-3 weeks is being mentioned.

rather then blow my top, i have sent them a msg asking if it would be simpler to close down my account without generating a mac code. not sure how this would affect my potential move to sky but im too sick of this to care now.

Hi there,

It's not a case of our not being able to generate you a MAC key, it's owing to there being considerable delays in doing so currently. Reverse LLU to IPStream migrations are currently taking 3-4 weeks, with the MAC generation process taking 2-3 weeks.

You could technically do a complete cease and reprovide, but this would result in a total loss of connection for about a week, as opposed to the probable 2 hours on the migration.

so cancellation might be the faster option? my plusnet connection is barely useable anyway with the restrictive cap so another week without connection wouldnt be too bad.

also 2-3 weeks seems to be an average estimate so i wouldnt be surprised if i ended up waiting much longer than that - ive already been at this for about a month now.

havent had an answer back from plusnet about reimbursing my lost week either and the next billing date is coming round again, going to have to chase it up again.

I'd hold off with the cancellation for now. We're hopeful that we'll be getting a list of outstanding MAC keys from tIscali tomorrow.

Drop me an email about the compensation request and I'll look into it for you.
