plusnet cancellation notice 30 days??

hooray, received the llu mac key today....

too good to be true? well yeah, i must be cursed because i rang up sky and they tell me that they cant use the llu mac key, they recommend i cancel the line and call them a week after that to try ordering again.

strangely i thought sky was based on a llu system so queried the rep a few times but she steadfastly said they couldnt accept it.

so i guess the original mac key would have worked - um, i have a headache now.

There are only a few ISP's that accept LLU Mac Keys. Us, Zen, IDNet, Newnet and a few others.

hmm ok, then i will put in my cancellation request tonight - should be relatively straightforward i hope...

despite all the mess above, i have received an answer to my cancellation request... - apparently i have wait another goddamn 30 days from the next billing cycle to cancel my account. the rep also has the gall to make it sound like my fault for requesting a bloody llu mac key!!

back to square one - i will not accept this, my patience has run out with this *****.

received word back from plusnet - they will honour my request to cancel, it will go through in the next 5 working days.

30 day notice has been in PN's Terms and Conditions since I've been with them, joined them in 2001.

Case of not bothering to read what your paying for. Also might have helped to check if the MAC was useable by Sky as it sounds like your the only one to blame for wasting your own time, but for once PN relented and are not holding you to your 30 day notice Agreement.

gus, i dont see why you saw a need to post your smug patronising comments in this thread?

i have been waiting more than 30days now and im still with them despite having a valid mac key back in august until their llu migration. and plusnet reps asked me to wait for a new mac key after the llu thing completed - they were aware of me moving to sky and did not say there would be compatability probs with new key.

they only agreed to cancel immediately because i had a good case for asking for it - next time keep your silly self-serving comments to yourself, or atleast in your own thread.

it has been 10 working days since the last plusnet rep told me my connection would be cancelled in 5 working days - after no response to any of my online questions since monday, i decided to ring today.

guess what, they conveniently forgot about my request but when reminded they clearly see the notes in my file - so rather then making me wait until 10th october they now say they will close my account down on the 6th october - am i supposed to be grateful? anyway im pretty sure they are fobbing me off yet again.

i am pretty pissed off with them and they still havent reimbursed me for my week's lost broadband connection - now i think they should offer me more than just that week, but some kind of goodwill gesture like waiving my disconnection fee for messing me about for the last 2 months.

anyone think its worth reporting them to ofcom? they need to be punished for this sort of behaviour.

I don't trust Ofcom

I do not really trust Ofcom. I had a big problem with PlusNet. I rang Ofcom for some advise on a desperate. The advise I got from a specialist was to wait for PlusNet to sort out my connection problem no matter how long I had to wait. I got the impression that the specialist there was working for PlusNet instead of helping customers. I gave up.

Notice to PlusNet

i joined plusnet broadband plus in may 2005 on monthly contract, deferred activation fee and no modem.

i am now trying to get a mac code from plusnet but have a got a message today saying that want me to pay the activation fee and a 30 day cancellation notice will start from my next bill invoice. i sent my request sometime last week and they still the took a bill only 2 days ago.

i was pretty sure it should be only 7 days to leave them and the service is no longer the same service it was when i joined over a year ago - the peaktime caps are really annoying so i want leave for sky as soon as poss. and even if it 30 days to move, why should i have to start the 30 day notice from my next billing date when i requested it before the last billing date?

anyone know if can argue with them about this notice thing?

I, too, want to be away from PlusNet and their T&C's are very wordy. If I recall (and my eyes are still sore) I did see a reference to a week, but later (much later) they do say 1 month. Put it in writing, keep a copy and use rec delivery if you want to be sure. I will!

an update:

my broadband stopped working last friday and i placed my order with sky on monday.

plusnet have still not offered any reimbursment for lost service and have completely ignored my request for compensation for the unending hassle this long process has caused.

to top it off, plusnet have today billed me for the coming month despite cancelling my service.

hope this is making a happy read for all you current/potential plusnet customers out there.

If I were you, I would cancel my direct debt. I was billed after I cancelled my service with ntl. I have been told that I have to wait until next billing month to get my money back each time when I ask ntl to return the money I am owed.

still no response to my online question so looks like i'm going to have to call them...

i had a similar problem with ntl despite having worked there previously but i hope plusnet will decide its worth their while not to **** me off any further.

so i rang their callcentre and was told the billing for this month was a mistake and it would be refunded in about 3 days.

regarding the reimbursement for 1 week of no connection, they say that my billing date was moved forward by 7 days in september and therefore no actual credit would be seen - wish they had explained this before they did it.

but i have been charged the full disconnection fee and will be getting no form of reimbursement for the ongoing hassle, which is pretty much what i'd expect them to do.

i asked them for a complaint address:

plusnet plc
po box 3704
perry st
sheffield
s9 2wl

and also asked if they think complaining to ofcom would be productive - but the rep said it was up to me whether I do that. what with them being taken over by bt, i doubt any complaint is going to be dealt with or even actioned but i might send one anyway.

hopefully, this is the end of anymore relations with plusnet - but i will check my creditcard next month just in case.

plusnet cancellation notice 30 days? lol, it been more like 80 days dammit!

Hi there,

We've (Comms Team) been working cancellations recently, and when we've been seeing a MAC request, we will advise that the deferred fees plus subscription charges will be due, we would generate the MAC Code upon payment of the deferred fees. If this didn't occur in your case, please accept my apologies as this shouldn't have happened.

That's interesting. Noone has confirmed who the "potential" buyer is ;)

Speculation sure, but nothing confirmed.
